Position Objective
The GCF Design Specialist role is responsible for leading the process for and quality managing all GCF graphic design projects, including print, multi-media, exhibition, signage and brand outputs. The role is a blend of advanced project management, coordinating inputs from a number of design suppliers and communication agencies [60%], and hands-on graphic design for internal and external communication assets [40%].

The role will manage the graphic design budget, under the direction of the Director of Communications, oversee a number of design and print agencies that support graphic design projects, coordinate and collaborate with GCF staff, external partners and stakeholders to produce complex and concurrent internal and public-facing design projects across GCF that contribute to improved reputation and increased recognition of GCF’s climate action leadership role.

Purpose

  • Develops and designs a successful design and publication strategy for all GCF’s internal and public-facing content assets, including premier GCF publications like the annual and progress reports, knowledge management and learning assets, Board reports and contributor publications
  • Designs and produces GCF communication products, including publications, digital and online templates, case studies, ‘at a glance’ products etc
  • Analyses and interprets GCF results data and programming trends to produce visual tools that communicate complex data sets
  • Develops and delivers GCF event concepts for participation at leading international events, such as COPs, international summits, the Global Programming Conference, GCF Regional Dialogues, Private Sector Investment Conferences etc, including liaising with global design firms to ensure on budget, on time installation around the world

    Engagement

    • Collaborate and guide GCF’s publication process including developing an annual work calendar to estimate time and resources needed to ensure that GCF publications are visually compelling, audience-specific and delivered on time
    • Manages the application GCF’s brand, including developing a refreshed brand style guide, and coordinating with external partners to implement GCF’s new Visibility Guidelines for partners, application on partners’ products, at GCF events and in GCF locations.
    • Oversees coordination of multiple, concurrent complex design outputs across GCF and with external partners including a mix of print, digital and campaign assets

      Delivery

      • Appoints, oversees, tasks the inputs and coordinates the work programs of external, contracted design agencies to deliver high-quality, on budget and on time content assets
      • Maintains constant knowledge of status, priority, and next steps for all graphic design and photography projects via a project management system
      • Maintains and manages the graphic design, and print production budget under the leadership of the Director of Communications
      • Manages the feedback loop between graphic designers, clients, communications team to ensure final approval of deliverables

        Requirements (Education, experience, technical competencies required of the job)

        • University degree in communications, branding, graphic design, visual arts or a related field.
        • At least 7 years of experience, preferably in an international organization, in digital and print graphic design, including layout, digital production, typography, branding for web and print visual products.
        • Understands the creative process and what graphic designers and/or photographers need to be successful (logistically and creatively)
        • Excellent communication, administration and negotiation skills
        • Demonstrated, advanced project management and coordination skills
        • Excellent understanding of design quality and the strategies involved in creating good designs
        • Advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and proficiency in MS Office and other similar programmes
        • Solid understanding of web design functionality, interaction, site architecture, user interfaces, and navigation across multiple platforms and devices
        • Ability to deliver creative and detailed work under pressure and within tight deadlines while managing multiple work streams and timelines
        • Creative and conceptual thinker, self-directed and motivated by problem-solving and design challenges.
