Central Banking Operations Deputy Division Chief Position

Description

The selected candidate will work in the Central Bank Operations Division (CO) in MCM. The Division is responsible for work on the operational implementation of monetary and exchange rate policy (e.g., liquidity management), the management of official reserves, and for central bank governance. The division works closely with staff in MCM, other Fund departments, and with country authorities, in delivering policy analysis, technical assistance (TA), and surveillance products.

  • He/she will assist the Division Chief in managing the division. This involves managing staff, project teams, and a complex work program; filling in for the Division Chief as needed; and contributing to the appraisal and development of staff.
  • He/she will also oversee the research and analytical work of the division, which requires a strategic approach in managing the division’s resources to address short and medium analytical priorities relevant to the division’s mandate.
  • He/she will also be required to contribute to the operational work of the division, provide analytical leadership on cutting edge issues, manage/lead TA and surveillance activities to diverse countries and financial systems, liaise internally with other MCM divisions and Fund departments and externally with central banks and relevant bodies, and also manage long-term experts in regional training centers. He/she will work closely across CO workstreams to ensure cross fertilization and a holistic approach to central banking operations and governance work.

    Qualifications

    The successful candidate should have an advanced degree (Ph.D preferred) or equivalent in economics, finance, or a related field, and at least fifteen years of relevant professional experience; work experience in relevant areas within a central bank is highly desirable.

    The candidate should have a strong record of published work, have demonstrated sound policy judgment, analytical skills, and in-depth knowledge of central bank operational frameworks. He/she should have excellent oral and written communication skills, capacity to meet tight deadlines, and strong interpersonal abilities and team spirit. The position requires strong managerial and supervisory skills and experience in drafting Board policy papers.

    The position requires Review Committee Approval.
