Background information/Organizational Context:
Working closely with UNHCR offices in GCC countries, the Communications Unit ensures proper donor visibility and facilitates UNHCR's communication efforts. In addition, to enhancing and coordinating media relations with local, regional, and international media outlets, as well as digital outlets, social media platforms, and academic institutions.
As part of its growing portfolio and ongoing advocacy and awareness-raising activities, UNHCR’s Communications Unit in Dubai is looking for a motivated intern to support its activities and contribute to its strategy.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Monitor media highlights, coverage, and relevant trending topics the GCC region.
• Update the media contacts database and inventory.
• Create a plan for UNHCR_GCC's accounts on LinkedIn and Twitter.
• Support with the management of UNHCR country websites in the GCC.
• Assist in preparing and/or tarnation of written materials, including press releases, concept notes, talking points, briefing notes, and media responses, etc.
• Provide other support as needed.
Minimum qualifications required:
• Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English is essential.
• Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree at an accredited university, preferably in the fields of journalism, communications, public relations, marketing, international relations, international development, law, political science, and economics.
• Excellent research, analytical, drafting and communication skills.
• Awareness of humanitarian affairs, with strong drafting skills.
• Basic graphic design skills are a plus.
Eligibility:
In order to be considered for an internship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:
• Recent graduate (those persons who completed their studies within one year of applying) or current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by UNESCO; and
• Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of the Organization.
An individual whose father, mother, son, daughter, brother or sister is a staff member of
UNHCR, including a Temporary Appointment holder or a member of the Affiliate Workforce, is not eligible for an internship.

Allowance:
Interns who do not receive financial support from an outside party will receive an allowance to partially help to cover the cost of food, local transportation and living expenses.
