Job Description

54 Reasons CLIMB program is a targeted short-term intervention strategy, designed to support disengaged primary school children to reconnect and engage with their school community. The name CLIMB was informed by conversations with children about why school is important and what helps them to go to school each day: C = Care, L = Learning, I = Imagination, M = Mates, B = Belonging. We need you to use your passion for children’s rights and development to help children achieve a sustainable transition back to school.

54 reasons is Australia’s leading child rights organisation – no ordinary not-for-profit.

Proudly part of the Save the Children Australia Group and global movement, we’re here to make sure that everyone understands their rights. So that children and young people have their rights met and thrive, in all their diversity.

We champion the children, young people and families we work with. We are inspired by the curiosity and creativity of children and motivated by the love of those who care for them.

With the child’s voice at the centre, we provide quality services to children and their caregivers, advocating with them so that children develop, learn, and are connected, safe and confident. Our people are proudly local, reflective of the communities we serve - in every state and territory, and across regions, remote areas and capital cities.

Where you come in:

This is a part-time role (3 days per week, maximum-term position through to the 31/12/2023). Based in Launceston, you’ll deliver targeted short-term interventions, designed to support primary school children who are disengaged, or at risk of becoming disengaged, to reconnect and engage with school. You’ll be working with children, their families, and schools to identify and address barriers to successful education engagement and will also work closely with key stakeholders to strengthen collaborative practice and create sustainable outcomes through the establishments of Student Wellbeing Networks. As part of our Youth and Family Services team, you’ll report to our Team Leader.

You will make an impact by:

Supporting children to engage positively in education. Supporting children to reach their full potential and build sustainable support networks and connection to community. Empowering parents and caregivers to support their child’s engagement in education. Building and maintaining strong networks, service delivery partnerships, and effective referral pathways. Collecting and recording data and information for the purpose of accountability, evaluation, and reporting.

Does this sound like you?

Your motivation to see children and young people have positive education experiences and reach their full potential helps you to work holistically to deliver evidence-based interventions. At all times, you work from a strengths-based, trauma-informed, client centred and solution focused approach. Your excellent communication skills would make you the ideal for this role, and you’ll easily engage children, their families, and the wider community.

This role requires:

Diploma in a relevant field, or progress towards a qualification with experience in a community service setting. Ability to work with children and families, often with complex needs, in a safe and respectful way. Strong time management, organisational and record keeping skills. Knowledge of issues that impact the experiences of children at school, including trauma, neglect, and abuse. Knowledge and/or experience working within an education setting may be desirable, but not required.
