World Wildlife Fund (WWF), one of the world’s leading conservation organizations, seeks a Chief of Party, Climate Resilient Agriculture in the Mekong Delta

WWF is seeking candidates for a Chief of Party (COP) for the proposed USAID-funded Climate Resilient Agriculture in the Mekong Delta program. This 5-year program, anticipated to start in November 2023, aims to advance low-emissions climate-resilient agricultural livelihoods, combined with biodiversity conservation, to support carbon sequestration, healthy ecosystems, and resilience of vulnerable communities in the Mekong Delta. This program will support an ongoing collaboration between USAID and the Vietnamese Ministry for Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD)

Responsibilities

The COP will provide in-country leadership, vision, planning and coordination for the project, and will serve as the primary representative of the project, coordinating with the funding agency, as well as other partners, stakeholders, Government of Viet Nam counterparts, and other relevant projects/initiatives.

Qualifications

  • At least 10 years of experience implementing and managing large, complex, donor-funded projects working on sustainable and low emissions agriculture, climate change resilience, or ecosystem management and restoration. USAID experience preferred.
  • Experience working closely with host country governments and leading high-level meetings and events, building relationships with partners, and navigating complicated and sensitive issues across a wide range of stakeholders. Experience working in Viet Nam in partnership with the government is encouraged.
  • Master’s degree (minimum) in natural resources management, environmental science/management, climate science and policy, sustainable agriculture, environmental economics, disaster risk management, climate governance, or other related field.
  • Extensive understanding of development partnerships, donor strategies, functions, relevant regional intergovernmental processes, governmental and international relations.
  • Excellent written and oral skills communication and fluency in English. Vietnamese language proficiency is encouraged.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness leading and managing teams able to adapt to dynamic operating conditions to achieve project results.
  • Expertise and experience in at least one, but more preferred, of the following areas:
    • Climate vulnerability assessments and implementation
    • Climate adaptation planning and implementation
    • Gender and social inclusion, especially related to agriculture or climate change
    • Agriculture, with a focus on rice, horticulture, and aquaculture value chains
    • Reducing methane emissions from rice production
    • Protected area management
    • Ecological restoration of mangroves, wetlands, and forests
    • Freshwater hydrology and restoration
    • Environmental and agricultural policies of Viet Nam
    • Building capacity, training, and mentorship of government officials
    • Climate finance, carbon markets, payments for ecosystem services, private sector engagement, and market-oriented development
