Organizational Background
The Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization with its headquarters in Vienna is the international organization setting up the global verification system foreseen under the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), which is the treaty banning any nuclear-weapon-test explosion or any other nuclear explosion. The Treaty provides for a global verification regime, including a network of 337 stations worldwide, a communications system, an international data centre and on-site inspections to monitor compliance.
This position is located in the External Relations, Protocol and International Cooperation Section of the Legal and External Relations Division (LEG).
Under the supervision of the Senior External Relations Officer, to:
1. Assist the Executive Secretary, the Director of the Legal and External Relations Division and other senior staff in preparation for meetings with high-ranking governmental officials, participation in high-level multilateral conferences, and outreach missions;
2. Assist senior staff production of persuasive written analysis and concise reports on issues related to the Treaty and the work of the Organization, and assist in the preparation and implementation of action-oriented strategies on ways to address challenges and promote the universalization of the Treaty;
3. Establish productive professional working relationships with a wide-range of internal and external stakeholders relevant, and collaborate those stakeholders in the preparation of action-oriented briefing, background notes, speeches, presentations and reports for the Executive Secretary and senior staff;
4. Assist in liaising with assigned States Signatories, and non-signatories, as well as relevant regional and international intergovernmental organizations with the aim of promoting the goals of the Treaty and its entry into force universalization; prepare draft reports on meetings and ensure that follow-up action is taken; draft and format official correspondence with Permanent Missions and national authorities as necessary;
5. Assist in coordination and management of major external facing events, including the biennial Science Diplomacy Symposium, Science and Technology Conference and other outreach activities, as well as CTBTO participation in other international forums;
6. Contribute to the planning and organization of further outreach activities of the Section with the aim of promoting the goals of the Treaty and its universalization;
7. When required, provide assistance in relation to protocol activities;
8. Perform other duties as assigned.
University degree in political science, international relations, including non-proliferation and disarmament, or a related field.
Remuneration:
CTBTO offers an attractive compensation and benefits package in accordance with the policies of the International Civil Service Commission.
