About this position

The IDB's Amazon Coordination Unit is composed of a multidisciplinary team leading the Amazon Regional Program: Amazon Forever. The program works in eight Amazonian countries (Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Suriname, Peru, and Venezuela) to promote climate action and resilient recovery in the region, in line with the IDB Group's 2025 Vision. The Amazon Forever Program mobilizes public and private resources to forge and implement sustainable and inclusive development models based on human capital, natural wealth, and cultural heritage of the Amazon region. The program's cross-cutting themes are: human capital, sustainable agriculture, forest management, bioeconomy, infrastructure and sustainable cities, institutional strengthening, forest conservation, and gender and diversity. One of the main objectives of the Program is to promote gender equality and identity development of indigenous peoples in the Amazon.

We are looking for a Amazon Finance Network Consultant to support the management of AFN activities, as well as support the analysis and preparation of reports, and organization of events in support of the network activities. The AFN will focus its activities in 7 priority areas/workstreams: financial inclusion, SMEs, agribusiness and forestry, nature finance, innovative finance and product design, outreach and partnerships, and public private partnership.

You will work with the Amazon Coordination Unit (CSD/ACU) in the Climate Change and Sustainable Development Sector of the IDB. This team is responsible for implementing the Amazon Forever Program, and Terence Gallagher (INO/FLI) Division Leader of IDB Invest.

What you’ll do

  • Coordinate quarterly meetings of the AFN as monthly meetings for the 7 workstreams.
  • Prepare minutes of the meetings, with a section of agreed next steps.
  • Follow-up of actions to be undertaken in support of the 7 workstreams, with a focus on meeting the workstream objectives in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Prepare terms of reference for the studies that are needed, as well as support the monitoring of those consultancies.
  • Capture and analyze data for the preparation of reports.
  • Identify information that can be used for knowledge dissemination as well as the development of case studies regarding successful experiences.
  • Organize events twice a year to share information and best practices among the AFN members.
  • Ensure that there is smooth communication between network members, as well as with key stakeholders.
  • Organize activities that will position the AFN as an innovation source as well as a relevant body in the Amazon region.
  • Ensure coordination among internal teams at the IDB Group, including the development effectiveness team, the advisory team, and relevant operational teams.
  • Other activities as requested by the consultancy coordinator within the framework of its competencies.

    What you'll need

    • Education: A master’s degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in Economics, Environmental Sciences, or Social Sciences.
    • Experience: At least 5 years of progressive experience in development topics, including research and managing finance network.
    • Languages: Proficiency in Spanish, Portuguese, and English, spoken and written is required.

        • Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48 member countries.
        • Consanguinity: You do not have family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
