About this position

The Accounting Policy, Trust Fund and Pension Reporting Group (ACC/PTR) within the Accounting Division is looking for an energetic and team-oriented professional with technical expertise on US GAAP as an Accounting Policy consultant.

ACC/PTR is responsible for the financial reporting and related internal controls of all funds under the Bank’s administration, including the IDB Lab and the Bank sponsored benefit plans and programs, ensuring compliance with established accounting policies and procedures.

The Accounting Policy team within ACC/PTR ensures that the Financial Statements of the Bank and other reporting entities under administration are in compliance with accounting standards established by authoritative standard setters in the US and/or other entities as applicable.

This position requires a strong technical knowledge of US GAAP, strong oral and written communication skills, sound judgment and the ability to multi-task and manage time effectively. The consultant will interact regularly with other teams in the Accounting and Finance Divisions, and the external auditors.

What you’ll do:

  • Assist in ensuring the Bank's compliance with standards established by authoritative accounting standards setters in the US and stay abreast of the standard-setting developments in the international arena.
  • Assess the accounting and financial reporting impact of new products and processes in close coordination with other areas of the Bank to ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and principles.
  • Provide input to resolve highly complex technical problems that have a Bank-wide impact in the area of expertise.
  • Prepare accounting policy, position, and issue papers recommending accounting and reporting policies for the Bank.
  • Assist in maintaining the Bank's accounting policy documentation up-to-date.
  • Assist in the implementation of new accounting policies as well as evaluate alternative form/content for financial disclosures that comply with US GAAP and recommends alternatives for the Bank as applicable.
  • Monitor the standards-setting processes of the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), and the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) and prepare the accounting policy quarterly report to highlight the impact on the Bank.
  • Prepare training material and make presentations on accounting and reporting matters to various levels of the Bank's staff, Senior Management, and the Board of Directors.

    What you'll need

    • Education: master’s degree or equivalent in accounting or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role. CPA or equivalent professional accounting certification required.
    • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting.
    • Languages: Proficiency in English.

        Requirements:

        • Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries.
        • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.

          Type of contract and duration:

          • Type of contract: International Consultant Full-Time in HQ or National Consultant under the remote modality.
          • Length of contract: 12 months.
          • Work Location: On site if hired as international consultant or 100% remotely from the consultant’s place of residence if hired as a national consultant.
