Setting and ReportingThis position is located in the Communications and Public Mobilization Section / External Outreach Service (EOS) of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Geneva, Switzerland. The incumbent reports to the Head of the Web Unit. ResponsibilitiesWithin delegated authority and depending on location, the Web Assistant may be responsible for the following duties: Web content management and user services. • Act as a primary point of contact for the OHCHR.org website and provide web helpdesk services via Info Design. • Create, update, and delete web content based on users' requests. Control information quality using information lifecycle parameters and business workflow. • Respond to inquiries on web content. Identify and solve web content-related errors and problems. • Monitor and maintain the OHCHR.org website, including the information on the UN Human Rights mechanisms, operations and activities; OHCHR organizational entities and services; and forms used by OHCHR staff members. • Monitor the validity of the OHCHR website for internal and external links, copyrights, and all other issues stated in UN and OHCHR website guidelines. • Assist in the posting and maintenance of web content in English. • Act as the focal point for the management of the Spanish version of OHCHR.org. • Work with AGT and MemoQ to manage and assign translations of web content, working with external revisers/translators. Development and administration of OHCHR Websites. • Develop and maintain a functional, operational, and technical web expertise. • Design and customize web pages using Drupal Content Management System and HTML/CSS, web development software, and multimedia tools. • Assist in performing User Acceptance Test (UAT) for new features and improvements of the OHCHR.org website • Document and report technical issues observed in Drupal that need to be solved by the web development vendor. Documentation and user training. • Assist in the preparation of standardized documentation and procedures relating to the OHCHR.org website and web publishing processes. • Keep abreast of the latest developments in the field of web and information technology. • Provide guidance and training for OHCHR web content contributors on web publishing, web guidelines, and best practices. CompetenciesPROFESSIONALISM: Proven ability to use standards-compliant HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Demonstrated understanding of web accessibility and usability principles. Up-to-date knowledge of search engine optimization (SEO) techniques. Ability to research and gather information from a variety of sources. Knowledge of media platforms, as well as accessibility-compliant multimedia and digital asset management systems, tools, techniques, formats, and standards. Knowledge of internal policies, processes, and procedures related to the communication, production, and dissemination of public information. Demonstrated skills in web maintenance, web design, and web development. Work ExperienceA minimum of five years of relevant and progressively responsible experience in Web design and information management is required. The minimum year of relevant experience is reduced to three (3) for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. A minimum of three years of experience working with Drupal content management system (CMS) is desirable. Experience working with Web authoring tools and graphics or multimedia applications software is desirable. Experience working with MemoQ or similar computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools is desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
