UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, is responsible for coordinating international cooperation in education, science, culture and communication. Our objective, according to our Constitution, is "to contribute to the maintenance of peace and security by strengthening, through education, science and culture, collaboration among nations, to ensure universal respect for justice, law, human rights and fundamental freedoms for all, regardless of race, sex, language or religion, which the United Nations Charter recognizes for all peoples".

The Executive Office of the Culture Sector provides strategic advice, quality control and management support to the Assistant Director-General for Culture (ADG/CLT) and ensures the overall coordination of the development, implementation and monitoring of the approved programme and budget of the Culture Sector, as well as the Sector's communication with other Sectors/Bureaux/Offices at UNESCO, with other agencies of the UN System and with external partners.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Support the revision, translation and, wherever appropriate drafting of knowledge products, including correspondence, speeches, messages, web news articles, fact sheets, newsletters, forewords, interviews, reports and other documents in French and English.
  • Assist in the coordination of the Sector’s strategic initiatives, including in the revision, translation and, wherever appropriate, drafting of meeting reports and related documents, and the organization of international events.
  • Assist in the coordination of the UNESCO Category 2 Centres, UNESCO Chairs/UNITWIN and Anniversary Programmes, including in preparing and updating databases; coordinating the evaluation of creation and renewal proposals with relevant colleagues; and reviewing related correspondence.
  • Assist in the coordination of the Sector’s contribution to the Operational Strategy on Youth and UNESCO’s action to Prevent Violent Extremism (PVE), including by consolidating the Sector’s inputs and participating along with the Sector’s focal point on Youth and PVE in relevant intersectoral meetings.
  • Assist the Sector’s focal point for online collaboration (Teams) and Records Management, in the framework of the new phase of the Digital Workplace rollout.

Languages

  • Excellent knowledge of French, and good knowledge of English. Knowledge of Spanish would be an asset.

Education

  • Enrollment in a graduate degree programme in the field of culture, humanities, international relations, development or in a related field.

Experience and skills

  • Strong writing and analytical skills;
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment;
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines;
  • Self-starter; organized; able to multitask and balance multiple responsibilities.
