Overview:

As part of its mission to foster a sense of global responsibility among the next generation of leaders and consumers, Mercado Global accepts a limited number of students as interns. This internship offers the opportunity to learn about the inner workings of an international non-profit organization while becoming familiar with the growing ethical fashion industry.

Position Description:

Reporting to the Institutional Partnerships Coordinator, the Translation Intern will be based in our office in Panajachel, Guatemala. The Translation Intern will gain valuable experience in translation, as well as broad exposure to both the social enterprise and fashion industries. This position requires at least a 3-month commitment, though we are seeking an intern to stay for the semester. Start dates are flexible. Unpaid but academic credit is available if intern is a current student.

Responsibilities:

-Convert concepts in Spanish to equivalent concepts in English and vice-versa, both verbally and in writing, correctly relaying the style and tone of the original language
-Assist with the creation of presentations and events in Spanish
-Compile information, such as technical terms used in the fashion industry, to be used in translations
-Check translations of technical terms and terminology to ensure that they are accurate and remain consistent throughout translation revisions
-Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications:

-Ability to speak and write clearly and effectively in both English and Spanish
-Current or recent college graduate from an accredited four-year institution, graduate students also welcome
-Ability to exhibit professionalism, tact, and diplomacy in a confidential environment
-Demonstrated interest in non-profit development and international work
-Excellent organizational skills and extreme attention to detail
-Ability to work in a high-pressure environment and balance competing demands and priorities
-Enthusiasm for Mercado Global's mission
-Flexibility, drive and a sense of humor
