THE ROLE

The Financial Reporting, Accounting & Controlling team is part of the Finance Team within the Finance & Operations Department and is responsible for the financial operations of Gavi 5.0 and COVAX i.e., accurate recording of accounting transactions; accounts payable; incoming grants; statutory reporting and ensuring a solid control environment.

MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

FINANCE

  • Process expert for Bank Clearing using SAP functionality and tools. Primary responsibility for correct clearing and reconciliations;
  • Perform Treasury Back Office functions, including settlement/confirmation of trades, posting settlement entries, calculation and confirmation of Mark to Market on hedging portfolio, Revaluations;
  • Familiarity with accounting for spot and derivative transactions;
  • Maintain accounting models for prepayments, process periodic postings and complete reconciliations to demonstrate controls;
  • Complete reconciliations of balance sheet accounts (Bank Clearing, and other accounts);
  • Maintain accounting processes and procedures to document and demonstrate controls;
  • Perform User Acceptance Testing on SAP changes, releases, and enhancements;
  • Assist in implementing audit recommendations and assess control framework;
  • Ad hoc support in resolving accounting matters (including system related);
  • Prepare ad hoc financial reports by collecting, analysing and summarising account information and trends;
  • Ensure regular communication with all stakeholders, and prompt responses to queries;
  • Assist the SMFA in monitoring the Month End Close, including preparation of checklists;
  • Review Vendor Master data ensuring thorough control and due diligence of bank accounts;
  • Other tasks as required by the Senior Manager Financial Accounting, including providing support to Accounts Payable team and Manager from time to time.

COMPLIANCE

  • Ensure compliance with all Gavi policies and procedures in the above tasks;
  • Maintain financial security by implementing, following, testing and recommending internal controls.

Note: The essential functions listed in this section are not exhaustive of the job responsibilities; other duties may be assigned consistently with the department needs. The Gavi Financial Accounting team is currently building depth across all functions, so rotation of duties is inevitable. The ability to train and be trained are paramount.

QUALIFICATIONS

ACADEMIC

  • CPA, CA, ACCA, or equivalent;
  • Degree in finance or accounting.

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in financial accounting and reporting and financial systems preferably in a US GAAP environment.

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES

Critical

  • Extensive experience in use of SAP FICO (particularly Bank Clearing) and Treasury are mandatory and experience in use of Funds Management and other SAP modules is a distinct advantage;
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • Excellent computer skills, proven competence with Microsoft Excel;
  • Capable self-starter with the ability to work remotely and independently;
  • Ability to train others and build depth of knowledge within the team;
  • Customer, service and solution orientated.

LANGUAGES

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English;
