  • Reports to: Senior Planning & Infrastructure Engineer
  • Work closely with the Head of the Urban Planning and Design unit to develop action plans of the planned reconstruction projects.
  • Guide the conduction of field assessments of structurally unsound buildings, buildings with medium and mild damages, schools, and hospitals.
  • Develop a technical tool to assess all trades in affected buildings (namely structures, architectural components, and electro-mechanical disciplines).
  • Based on field assessments, design, study and develop technical dossiers for the affected buildings, schools, and hospitals in close coordination with UPD team members.
  • Contribute to the development of structurally unsound buildings guidelines and awareness messages.
  • Supervise engineering implementation with proper documentation tools, while relying on the active contribution and participation of the different stakeholders and local authorities.   
  • Support in the development of surveys, contents, maps, and dashboards.
  • Obtain the necessary maps required to understand infrastructure and building conditions and coordinate preparations with the GIS/IM Coordinator to ensure data accurately reflects on-site conditions prior to detailed technical dossiers starts.
  • Coordinate with the Order of Engineers and Architects on the technical specifications and requirements to apply renovations and stabilization for buildings at risk.
  • Coordinate with the humanitarian Shelter Sector to recommend on specific guidelines for the reconstruction phase.
  • Ensure proper information sharing and close coordination with the UPD team members and the head of the unit.
  • Coach relevant UN-Habitat team members on engineering renovation practices and applications. 
  • Participate in technical and/or coordination meetings. 
  • Develop monthly and/or periodic report on work progress to the head of UPD.
  • Contribute to the overall annual or periodic reporting processes required to be prepared and submitted by the Programme.
  • Attend meetings and represent UN-Habitat when needed and when requested by the Programme Manager and/ or the head of UPD.
  • Strong technical skills in structural design, architecture, and electro-mechanical renovation processes.
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to manage a multidisciplinary team with multiple deadlines.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in civil engineering, electro-mechanical engineering, or any other related field
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s degree or three (3) years with a Master’s degree 
  • Experience in implementing and/or supervising renovation works for regular and/or heritage buildings.
  • Extensive knowledge in material testing and design software is an asset.
  • Excellent command of Arabic and English languages (spoken and written) is required.
