People in Need is calling for applications for the position of a Project Coordinator within Middle East and North Africa Program of the Centre for Human rights and Democracy (HRD). The primary goal of People in Need's Centre for Human Rights and Democracy is to support independent individuals and groups in countries with repressive regimes who are the target of persecution, harassment, or arrests because of their opinions or activities, and to strengthen civil society in countries that are going through democratic transformation.
The Middle East and North Africa Program is currently focusing on support of human rights and civil society in Libya. The main programmatic focus includes:

  • Support for activities of civil society groups, human rights defenders and independent media
  • Capacity building for various types of civil society actors

TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Planning and coordinating particular country program activities, primarily focused on the support of human rights, civil society and independent media
  • Development of projects, including project proposal writing and reporting
  • Sub-grants management
  • Organizing and facilitating events for beneficiaries
  • Administration of project documentation
  • Cooperating with the Finance Manager on budgets for individual projects
  • Regular contact with partner organizations and with donors
  • Formulating the overall strategy of the particular country program in coordination with the Program’s management

SUITABLE CANDIDATES SHOULD POSSESS:

  • University degree (or pursuing the degree) in a relevant field
  • Fluency in English. Working knowledge of Arabic is an asset
  • Experience working in or on the Middle East and North Africa region is desirable
  • Experience at national or international level in the area of civil society, human rights, media or international development
  • Good understanding of political issues and trends in the region of North Africa
  • Experience in project management is preferred
  • Excellent organizational, writing and communicational skills, incl. intercultural communication
  • Good interpersonal and networking skills
  • Ability to effectively manage time and handle multiple assignments
  • Conceptual thinking and reliability
  • Proven ability to work both independently and as an effective team member
