UNEP’s Medium-Term Strategy (MTS) sets out the transformative shift that allows UNEP to tackle three planetary crises through thematic Subprogramme, one of which is the Nature Action Subprogramme. The Nature Action Subprogramme delivers science-based solutions to prevent, halt and reverse the decline of nature and foster sustainable development, maintaining nature’s contributions to people and sustaining a healthy planet. The individual contractor will support delivery of the current 2022-2025 MTS Nature Strategic Objective (Living in harmony with nature) and support the transition to deliver the 2025-2029 MTS Nature Strategic Objective (Living in harmony with nature: land, ocean and freshwater; achieving land degradation neutrality). To achieve these objectives, the individual contractor will focus on supporting “Portfolio Coordination”, “Strategic Planning”, and “Reporting and Analyzing Results”. Key responsibilities include support for the Subprogramme implementation, ensuring alignment with the MTS, reviewing project concepts for strategic alignment and ensuring synergies across the Divisions and Regional Offices. A minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in the field of environmental sciences, biodiversity conservation, environmental project management, international development or related fields is required. Prior experience with biodiversity and natural resources management projects, particularly in developing countries, is desirable. Experience with the UN system, especially with UNEP, is desirable.
