You'll contribute to ending world hunger by ...

  • Improving nutrition outreach and surveillance in urban poor communities in Metro Manila and documenting evidence base for best practices and nutrition programming
  • Will be responsible for planning, implementing, managing and monitoring the planned activities in line with the proposal and the budget in the selected city. She/he will be in charge of coordinating the activities with relevant city government agencies.

Key activities in your role will include

  • Consuct project orientation to city/barangay health/nutrition officers
  • Coordinate with city health/nutrition offices and identify possible areas for project intervention
  • Identify nutrition volunteers and conduct training on nutrition surveillance systems and referral pathways
  • Engage and monitor the volunteer's nutrition surveillance activities and prepared report and share with city health/nutrition offices
  • Ensure identified case of malnourished children are referred to proper care and support
  • Mobilize and organize monther-to-mother support groups to provide counseling and support to mothers, PLWs, and caregivers of malnourished children and infants with low weight.
  • Organize and facilitate mother-to-mother support groups to conduct nutrition counseling through and monitor their activities
  • Prepare and facilitate training on the National Guidelines on Management of Acute Malnutrition and basic Infant & Young Child Feeding (IYCF) counseling, promotion of first 1000 days to local health workers
  • Plan and facilitate IYCF sessions targeting mothers, PLWs, and caregivers of malnourished children and infants with low weight, including awareness on exclusive breastfeeding, complementary feeding, prevention of child malnutrition and proper hygiene practices
  • Conduct regular meeting with city health/nutrition officer and update on the project progress
  • Provide continuous coaching or on the job training and supervisión and monitoring for the health staff, community volunteers.
  • Ensure that nutrition activities are implemented according to the established procedures and standards

Reports

  • Collect compile and analyze monthly nutrition reports in a timely manner including nutrition surveillance data.
  • Develop MEAL system in coordination with the MEAL coordinator and update on a regular basis
  • Prepare final report
  • Collect and write successful stories of project activities
  • Report any technical and non-technical related issues that may hamper the project implementation
  • Ensure project documents are archived

Other specifics tasks

  • Any other task required to achieve the project objectives,
  • Represent, maintain and reinforce professional relationships LGUs, health/nutrition offices and other stakeholder in the area
  • Keep a record on the materials/equipments in the field and ensure dead of donation documents are secured in case of donations
  • Coordinate with log/admin department for the support needed and follow the established policies and guidelines of the respective departments
  • Facilitate field visits by fundraising departments and donors, as needed
  • Report any security or other incidents in the field that may interrupt project activities directly to the Security focal point

Do you meet the profile required criteria?

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition, Public Health, or other Health Sciences
  • Strong technical knowledge on nutrition surveillance, primary health, Community-based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM), Infant and Young Child Feeding in Emergencies (IYCF-E)
  • Experience and awareness on nutrition situation in the Philippines, related laws and protocols
  • Familiarity with the local culture, ability to develop respect from a wide range of people and strong ability to communicate effectively on health and nutrition matters.
  • Knowledge in Cluster Coordination is an advantage.
  • Monitoring and evaluation of nutrition and primary health projects/programs
  • Previous experience of at least two years in a similar position or in public health
  • Experience in planning, designing, managing and/or providing technical assistance in Nutrition and/or in the primary health sector in urban set-up
  • Experience in building local capacity in nutrition and health sector
  • Experience in conducting nutrition/health assessment (emergency and development), analysis and report writing
  • Previous experience in working with local/national health structures
  • Significant exposure and experience working in the nutrition/health sector in emergencies, particularly in an urban set-up
  • Experience in working in poor urban communities and informal settlements
  • Understanding of emergency nutrition protocol and UN/government led cluster systems and coordination
  • Excellent English and Filipino speaking and writing skills required.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) and other software for nutrition data analysis
