MISSION CONTEXT:

In Yemen, HI works in 8 health facilities (hospitals and rehabilitation centers) in Sana'a and 1 hospital in Aden. In these health centers, teams intervene to meet the urgent needs of injured people through an integrated approach of physical rehabilitation and psychosocial sessions. HI also delivers training and awareness-raising sessions on rehabilitation, inclusion, and psychosocial support throughout projects to ensure the strengthening of local partners in the protection and health sectors.

HI’s program in Yemen focuses on three key areas:
1. Comprehensive Rehabilitation: reducing long term disability by ensuring there is increased access to comprehensive rehabilitation services in Yemen. A comprehensive approach includes physical and functional rehabilitation, assistive devices and prosthetics, counselling for caregivers and mental health and psychosocial support for victims and their families. This work is delivered through a capacity-building approach to strengthen Yemen’s health facilities and health workers.

  1. Armed Violence Prevention: mitigating injuries through risk education aimed at keeping communities safe from the risk related to arms. This involves changing behaviours to increase community safety and ensuring public information on risks and mitigation measures is available to populations at risk and in transit. In Yemen, HI is active in assessing risk education needs and gaps as well as coordinating among technical Mine Action/ risk education working groups.

  2. Inclusion: ensuring vulnerable groups have equal access to humanitarian services. HI provides technical advice and capacity development to service providers on the inclusion of boys, girls, men and women with disabilities and other marginalized groups in Yemen. HI also co-leads the Inclusion Task Force whose purpose is to assess the level of meaningful access to different vulnerable groups to humanitarian services.
