World Vision EU Representation (WV EUREP) is one of several “global capitals” based in strategic global locations and an association of WV Offices engaged strategically with the EU. Our main goal is to see a tangible increase in political and financial investment in children by the EU. We work towards this goal and World Vision’s main priority areas through two strategic avenues: advocating for children’s rights at EU level and supporting the World Vision Partnership with expertise and knowledge on EU funding and actions.

Purpose of the Position

The role of the Junior Policy and Communications Officer is to: 1) support the development of engaging communications content and messaging (80%) and 2) support the office’s policy work in the area of nutrition, targeting the EU and its Member States (20%).

Main Responsibilities

  • Profile World Vision as a key child-focused advocacy, development and humanitarian agency and strengthen the relationship with the EU audience.

  • Support the implementation of the EUREP Policy and Advocacy workplan, in the area of nutrition.

Specific duties

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience in communications, journalism, international relations, EU affairs or other relevant areas.

  • Excellent drafting skills; ability to write compelling and engaging communication and policy messages.

  • Excellent computer literacy, including ability to work with Microsoft Office, web-based software (website management) and programmes such as InDesign, Photoshop, Adobe or equivalent.

  • Knowledge of the EU institutions and ways of working of the EU and its Member States.

  • Excellent written and spoken command of English is essential.

  • Very good organisational skills.

  • Flexible personality, willingness to contribute within a small team and a multi-cultural environment, good humour, diplomatic communicator.

  • Support for World Vision’s core values and Christian identity.

  • Citizenship of an EU member state or a valid residence and work permit for Belgium is a must.

Would be assets, but optional

  • Experience in the field of children’s rights, development cooperation and/or humanitarian aid.

  • Experience working with the EU and/or its Member States.

  • Knowledge of the nutrition sector and EU policies in that regard.

  • French or any other EU language is an asset.
