Women in developing countries earn and profit less than men from their efforts, due to multiple socio-economic gender constraints. Yet when women have equal access to income and opportunity it is shown that they are more likely to invest in their families; benefitting their communities and improving economic growth. From the household through to the marketplace, SNV's Balancing Benefits product is working with both women and men to build equal income and business opportunities. A transformative gender approach Balancing Benefits is applied across all our work, integrating food and nutrition security, and climate resilience approaches. It explicitly aims to change gender norms and relations in order to promote more equitable relationships between men and women, and a more socially enabling environment.

The Global Technical Advisor (GTA) Gender equality will provide technical backstopping to sector projects and be technical lead in new business development. The GTA will be part of the Agriculture global sector team and will contribute to strengthening SNV’s global position. The GTA will develop innovative solutions and contribute to knowledge and learning and maintain and expand SNV’s relations and partnerships with key sector players.

This position reports to the Global Sector Coordinator and works in close collaboration with the Global Agriculture Sector team, Project Managers, Country Directors, Country Sector Leaders, and the Marketing and Business Development team.

Duties and Responsibilities

The selected candidate will be responsible for the following tasks:

· Contributing to development and upkeep of gender mainstreaming in the Agriculture sector projects;

· Advising on demand for and supply of expertise in gender mainstreaming for technical backstopping and expert support (consultants/short timers);

· Contributing to the Agriculture sector learning, develops key publications on best practices in sector;

· Preparing, maintaining and updating sector knowledge agenda, capturing lessons learnt including collection and dissemination of knowledge products to stimulate internal and external knowledge exchange and initiate global learning;

· Supporting SNV’s Agriculture sector projects in close collaboration with the project managers by delivering short-term support for improvements and or providing technical assistance on the implementation of ongoing sector projects;

· Maintaining and expanding SNV’s relations and strategic partnerships in the Agriculture sector;

· Designing and developing new programmes and projects relating to Agriculture sector by initiating and technically leading new donor proposal development;

· Providing technical input at different levels of proposal development and project lifecycle; providing technical review of final versions of project proposals; and leading and taking responsibility in the technical design of the whole proposal;

· Building, maintaining and utilising networks and relationships with relevant stakeholders e.g. companies, research institutions, universities, donors, etc.

· Identifying upgrading opportunities, public-private partnerships and other opportunities that support an industrywide vision;

· Representing SNV at key international events;

· Providing sector content to SNV’s Marketing and Business Development team;

· Contributing to SNV corporate agenda beyond the Agriculture sector;

· Undertaking frequent travel to projects.

Qualifications

Education

Master’s Degree in Gender and Development or related field(s).

Relevant Experience

· Proven track record with over 12 years of senior experience in the sector in multiple developing countries, including long-term advisory work in-country and knowledge development;

· Proven ability and solid experience providing gender technical assistance and developing successful proposals for external donor funding, including technical writing, is required;

· Excellent track record in advisory work related to Agriculture products service delivery;

· Demonstrated application of technical principles and concepts in gender integration at micro, meso and macro levels. General knowledge of mainstreaming gender in projects (clear gender targets, clear objectives for GE and WEE, development of gender sensitive indicators, gender based analysis, among others);

· Credible international track record and expertise in designing and implementing programmes;

· Excellent social and networking skills, ability to engage with governments and the private sector including influencing skills and experience of working effectively in a matrix organisation;

· International network within the Agriculture sector is strongly desirable;

· Sound experience within knowledge development, organisational learning and innovation;

· Entrepreneurial, result-oriented and driver for change;

· Visionary and able to strategically inspire and energise teams;

· Ability to coach, lead, stimulate, and inspire professionals in a development context;

· Proficiency in both written and spoken English is required. Proficiency in Dutch is desirable.

Additional Information

It is a full-time position with the successful candidate being contracted on a two-year Dutch National contract basis with the possibility of renewal. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
