Project Summary:

The purpose of Nicaragua Youth and Communities Secure, Empowered and Resilient (NYCSER) is to empower youth and their communities to acquire the knowledge, skills, and resources needed to become resilient and better equipped to advocate for their own best interests and security in the current national context of social and political instability and discrimination, including by actively participating in their communities' and nation's decision-making.

Position Summary:

The Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) specialist will take a lead role in improving the quality and relevance of GESI activities. The Gender Specialist will provide guidance on gender and social inclusion across project objectives and activities. S/he will be responsible for gender and social inclusion analysis as well as developing a robust gender and people with disabilities inclusion strategy.

Reporting and Supervision:

This position reports to the Chief of Party (COP)

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop GESI specific recommendations tailored to project objectives and activities;
  • Develop GESI strategy and identify activity level gender and inclusion related indicators;
  • Conduct staff and partner training sessions tailored to the local project context, discussing how proposed interventions strengthen project objectives and results;
  • Identify and engage relevant local stakeholders to support GESI work and assist in socializing interventions;
  • Facilitate GESI analysis and maintains ongoing monitoring and evaluation of gender focused initiatives and activities; and
  • Ensure the project's gender equality and social inclusion strategy is implemented in compliance with project work plan and client expectations, particular those applicable to people with disabilities.

    Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Masters' degree in social studies, business, international development, or a related field (or, alternately, a bachelor's degree in a relevant field and five (5) additional years of relevant experience);

  • At least five (5) years of technical experience in donor funded gender or people with disability inclusion programming;

  • Experience with women-focused entrepreneurship programming is highly desired; and

  • Fluency is Spanish is required; English desired.
