Finance and Office Manager - Americas Regional Office

18 Months' Fixed-Term Contract (with potential extension)

Amnesty International has shifted its centralized International Secretariat (IS) into a more strong, coherent and visible presence in strategic locations in the global South.

In the Americas, we are developing a stronger presence, with a regional office for the Americas based in Mexico City, a Sub-regional office in Lima, Peru, and an office in Washington D.C. Being closer to the ground is enabling us to operate with greater speed and relevance and to be more agile and responsible to the demands of our human rights agenda.

ABOUT THE ROLE:
This role will play a central role in ensuring the financial control of the Americas Regional Office’s activities through ensuring implementation of strong finance policies, systems, processes, and ongoing operations in our three locations.

The position is responsible for monitoring budgets, regularly reporting to local and international management and ensuring Amnesty International in the Americas meet all the relevant statutory and regulatory requirements. The Finance and Office Manager manages payroll and cash flow, legal compliance, IT and a range of human resources functions. This will include securing visas for international staff, commissioning training and ensuring human resources best practice.

This role reports directly to the Americas Director, and manages the Finance and Operations team, comprised of two Finance and Office Coordinator for Mexico and Lima, and other assistants and volunteers. The Finance and Office Manager also works very closely with the entire Americas Management team in ensuring budget development, reporting and forecasting, among other important areas of the continental operation.

ABOUT YOU:
We are looking for an experienced Finance Manager and qualified accountant with experience managing offices in international contexts, you should be an expert when it comes to preparing and monitoring budgets and overseeing the financial controls and day-to-day administrative processes of an office. More than being methodical, organized and flexible, you must be confident in your ability to get an international office up and running, thanks to a history of putting in place and managing financial, administrative, HR, IT and legal systems. You should also be well-versed in HR, customer focused and fluent in both English and Spanish. You preferably already have local contact networks in tax, immigration and with service contractors, along with a knowledge of local contract law.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
* Qualified accountant – essential;
* Experience in the management and support of staff;
* Experience in setting up and managing organizational systems and processes in finance, administration, IT, legal and HR. Start-up experience preferred;
* Experience of preparing and monitoring budgets and an ability to identify budget problems and solve them;
* Fluent in written and spoken English Language.
* Experience in establishing, organizing and maintaining comprehensive information systems;
* Experience of dealing with suppliers and external contacts, including the ability to pre-empt and troubleshoot issues, negotiate contracts and provide advice based upon some understanding of local contract law.
