About the Position. Plan International Denmark is looking for an Education in Emergencies Programme Specialist to support the implementation of the PlayMatters programme. PlayMatters is a 5-year programme funded by the LEGO Foundation and led by the International Rescue Committee (IRC) looking to bring playful learning to 800,000 refugee and host-community children age 3 – 12+ across Ethiopia, Uganda, and Tanzania. PlayMatters emphasizes Learning through Play (LtP) and Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) to achieve a holistic set of outcomes among children.
Key tasks of the position include:
· Jointly lead on providing technical assistance to the PlayMatters programme
· Provide technical assistance to Plan International Country Offices in implementing PlayMatters content
· Represent Plan International in PlayMatters Consortium technical working groups, including on content development and research.
· Lead and/or support development of gender transformative LtP content for the PlayMatters. Content will be targeted a broad group of stakeholders, incl. but not limited to children, parents/caregivers, and teachers
· Act as gender focal point for the PlayMatters consortium
· Support the overall coordination of Plan International Denmark’s engagement in PlayMatters, incl. on advocacy and MERL.
Based on the candidate’s expertise and interests, the candidate might also provide support to design and implementation of Plan International Denmark’s broader portfolio of education (in emergencies) programmes, including funding from DANIDA, private Danish foundations, and ECHO.
Qualifications & Experience
· Master’s degree in education, disaster risk management, international development, gender and/or equivalent relevant experience.
· A minimum of three years of experience designing and implementing EiE and/or Early Childhood Care and Education in Emergencies (ECCEiE) programmes targeting children ages 3 – 12
· Experience with designing education content (e.g. learning materials, curriculum, manuals) based on learning through play or similar pedagogical approaches.
· Theoretical and practical knowledge of how gender attitudes and power dynamics form learning and parenting, and how education can contribute to gender equality.
· Informed on current and relevant programme developments in EiE, including developments around measurement tools and evidence base to ensure impact.
· Understanding of and experience with integrating MHPSS activities into education programming
· Knowledge of and experience with applying the INEE Minimum Standards, SPHERE Standards, and Core Humanitarian Standards.
· Proven ability to liaise with a wide range of internal and external stakeholder in a consortium, and to work in a multi-disciplinary team.
· Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English. French language skills are an advantage.
· Experience with implementing projects and programmes in East Africa is an advantage.
· Experience with designing and implementing Integrated Early Childhood Development in Emergencies (ECDiE) programmes is an advantage
Conditions of employment. The preferred starting date is 1st of October 2020. Conditions of employment are based on Danish labour law and salary according to experience. It is a 2-year project position with possibility of extension.
International travel of 4 - 8 weeks a year can be expected (dependent on national and international travel restrictions).
The work location is Plan International Denmark’s office in Copenhagen. Applicants must be nationals of a European Union member state or otherwise hold the permit to work in Denmark. Work visas cannot be sponsored. Relocation package is also not offered.
