Back DEVELOPMENT OFFICER, FOUNDATIONS

(This position is covered under CUPE Bargaining Unit - Band 4)

This position is responsible for securing funding to accelerate the achievement of Save the Children’s organizational ambitions. The Development Officer, Foundations (DOF) is accountable for the management of the portfolio throughout all stages of the donor lifecycle. The DOF will maintain extensive knowledge of the donor landscape and sector trends in order to drive meaningful engagement and portfolio growth.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

• Support the development of a systematic foundation grant solicitation program consistent with Save the Children’s three year strategic priorities, and aligned with the organization’s annual operating plan.
• Maintain and manage a portfolio of foundations through all stages of the development process to meet specific funding goals.
• In collaboration with the Senior Manager, Strategic Partnerships, develop and manage a stewardship program for foundation contributors.
• Participate in external meetings with donors, as needed.
• Support and conduct foundation prospect research on a routine basis.

• Maintain knowledge of the donor landscape and sector trends (e.g. new funding modalities) to enhance portfolio positioning for new business opportunities.

• Coordinate with the Senior Manager, Strategic Partnerships, Resource Development, Business Development, and other internal and external partners as needed, on proposal/program development and administration.

• Compose, edit, and/or coordinate written materials, including proposals and budgets, in support of grant solicitations.

• Track and ensure deadlines for the submission of proposals are met, and the relevant internal partners are updated on progress.

• Maintain knowledge of Save the Children and Save the Children International’s priorities, initiatives, and recent awards to advance proposal/program development.

• Work with Resource Development, Business Development and Finance to log and track grant awards. This work will entail regular updating of Raiser’s Edge, pipeline reports, and contributing to other departmental and organizational reporting mechanisms as needed.

• Track and ensure deadlines are met for the submission of reports and other stewardship information; engage relevant internal partners as needed.

• Coordinate foundation funder communications, opportunities for direct engagement and field visits.

• Maintain relevant donor records to ensure fundraising moves are appropriately and timely documented.

• Perform related assigned duties as directed by the Senior Manager, Strategic Partnerships.

Qualifications (include but are not limited to):

· University Degree in Communications, Marketing or International Development.

· Minimum of three years of demonstrated effectiveness in soliciting grants or fundraising Demonstrated effectiveness in building philanthropic relationships.

· Knowledge of the principles and ethics of fundraising and the emerging trends within the fund development profession.

· Excellent writing skills, effective use of language, creativity, and commitment.

· Ability to collaborate on content and produce grants ahead of schedule.

· Experience with child rights programming in areas of Health, Education, Child Protection, and Livelihoods an asset.

· Exceptional verbal and written communication.

· Excellent interpersonal skills to develop strong working relationships across cultural and organizational boundaries with internal and external stakeholders, and managing through influence.

· Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

· Detail-oriented to support the review and editing of proposals and written communications, as well as to maintain accurate records.

· Apply judgment and make sound decisions that are accountable, justifiable, and in adherence to organizational policies.

· Ability to work within tight deadlines and time pressures.

· Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.

· Must adhere to Save the Children’s Child Safeguarding policy and protocols.

· Must Complete Police Vulnerable Sector Screening.
