'Child Protection Officer' based in Nicosia, Cyprus

War Child Holland (WCH) is an international non-governmental organization that works exclusively to improve the well-being and resilience of children and youths affected by violence and armed conflict. From its branch in Cyprus, WCH and its partners support children affected by the conflict in Syria through an integrated mix of child protection, education and psychosocial support interventions, while working closely with their caregivers, families and wider communities for maximum and durable impact.

We are seeking to strengthen our team and we are currently seeking an entrepreneurial and passionate Child Protection Officer to join our dynamic team of professionals dedicated to helping children and their families positively deal with the consequences of being exposed to armed conflict.

Your Challenge

You will be responsible for following up on child protection programmes within WCH in line with child protection (CP) quality standards. Furthermore, you will contribute to capacity building for partners, and ensure effective delivery of child protection activities.

Result Areas

Development and follow-up of child protection activities in line with CP standards and policies:

  • Work closely with partner child protection staff, including case workers and social workers, to identify child protection issues and inform evidence-based programming.

  • Assist in designing and developing child protection programmes and activities within WCH programme strategy.

  • Ensure regular follow-up with partner focal points on project activities to maintain quality and identify opportunities & constraints.

  • Support implementation of WCH Child Safety and Safeguarding policies, both internally and externally with partners.

Delivery of child protection capacity building:

  • Assist the CP Advisor in assessing and designing child protection capacity building plans for staff and partners.

  • Deliver child protection coaching and monitoring sessions, trainings and briefings.

  • Support staff and partners in the development and implementation of child safety checklists, child safeguarding policy, and other tools.

  • Deliver child safety and safeguarding briefings as required.

Internal and external coordination and representation:

Your Profile

  • Relevant academic background (Social Sciences / International Development Studies).

  • Knowledge of current principles and practices within Child Safeguarding and Child Protection.

  • Understanding of child rights (programming) in conflict and post-conflict environments.

  • Minimum 3 years (I)NGO experience in developing countries / conflict areas, preferably with children.

  • Minimum 1 year in the field of CP and programme implementation

  • Experience of building capacity in CP and an understanding of child-focused monitoring and evaluation processes.

  • Competent written and spoken English and fluent Arabic.

  • Strong critical analysis and strategic thinking skills.

  • Strong planning and coordination skills.

  • Ability to provide (creative/interactive) trainings.

  • Excellent communication skills; able to give and receive feedback.

  • Affinity with children and young people.

  • Result-oriented.

Contract

The contract for is for at least 1 year with the intention to prolong. This is a national position based within the EU with local labour conditions.
