Background

UNODC is a global leader in the fight against corruption, illicit drugs and other transnational crimes. Established in 1997 through the merger between the United Nations Drug Control Programme and the Centre for International Crime Prevention, UNODC operates in all regions of the world through an extensive network of field offices.

The partnership between Indonesia and UNODC has since 2007 evolved towards supporting a country-led and owned policy agenda, consistent with Indonesia’s status as a middle-income country. The cooperation with the Government of Indonesia is undertaken mainly through a Country Programme (CP) for the period 2017-2020 but also through additional global/regional initiatives. UNODC initiatives in the country outline a strategy to support policy frameworks and to provide accurate data and information to counter the consequences of corruption, illicit drugs and other forms of transnational crimes.

UNODC implements its activities in partnership with national counterparts, regional bodies, international partners and other stakeholders. Regarding anti-corruption, UNODC puts an emphasis on supporting Indonesia’s implementation of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption, with a view to promote the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
