The mission of the Green Climate Fund is to assist developing countries to respond to climate change while bringing prosperity to their people. Established in 2010, the GCF invests in transformational climate projects in the developing world. The Fund makes an ambitious contribution to global climate action and channels significant financial resources into developing countries to help build low-emission and climate-resilient societies. It is country-driven and undertakes actions that reflect the circumstances of each country concerned and its national aspirations. The GCF is a key enabler of the 2015 Paris Agreement on Climate Change. Since its establishment, the GCF has approved 200 projects in 141 countries and has committed USD 10 billion in climate finance. In addition, it has built up an extensive program to support developing countries to identify their needs, in particular, those who are most vulnerable to climate change impacts. Position Objective

The Web Developer – UI/UX, reporting to the Principal Software Architect, is responsible for the identity, usability, and general aesthetics of the internally-developed web applications as well as external platforms to be used by the Fund.

Duties and responsibilities

Purpose

  • Examine business cases for new automation undertakings, translate them into appealing concepts for the visualisation part of upcoming software solution.
  • Analyse new trends in the domain of modern user experience, evolving web standards and their applicability for GCF’s internal and external user communities.
  • Understand recurring need patterns and commonalities of stakeholder groups; derive identity guidelines that make work more efficient for all project work contributors at the Fund.

    Engagement

    • Work closely with experts in the Division of External Affairs for ensuring a seamless look and feel effect for the full range of internal and external GCF application users.
    • Prepare and present design drafts to internal teams and key stakeholders; negotiate, when applicable, advancement of pre-existing Fund-wide style guides based on own innovative ideas for augmenting usage experience.
    • Build and draw on synergetic relations with UI/UX subject matter experts in other international organisations, especially those from GCF’s partner Accredited Entities.

      Delivery

      • Design effective and appealing interfaces to improve user experience.
      • Create and maintain SharePoint websites leveraging Low-Code/No-Code platforms.
      • Contribute to all aspects of systems development coverage from planning to design, testing and deployment.

        Required experience and qualifications*

        • Advanced university degree ideally in graphic design, software engineering, computer science and related subjects or a relevant bachelor’s degree with an additional 2 years of professional experience.
        • Minimum of 4 years of experience in web design, web development, user experience, or related areas..
        • Demonstrated ability to provide work samples of at least one project where the role was primarily web design.
        • Strong skills in web design and proficiency in using graphic design software, including Adobe Creative Cloud tools is essential.
        • Working knowledge of frontend languages such as HTML, CSS, JSON/XML structures.
        • Experience with Microsoft SharePoint, Office 365, Logic Apps/Power Automate or other Low-Code/No-Code platforms would be a distinct advantage.
        • Familiarity with JavaScript and related frameworks is desirable.
        • Strong organisational and project management skills.
        • Motivation for continuous professional development and willingness to learn new skills is an essential competency for the job.
        • Ease in communicating in GCF’s official working language, English, is required. Familiarity with other UN System working languages is desirable.
