Action for Education
Action for Education is an independent, grassroots organisation founded in the UK and Greece in 2017. We develop and support projects that aim to remove the barriers to education for refugees.
We're looking for volunteers to join us in Athens August onwards. In Athens, we run an non formal Education Programme as part of a Women’s Centre in partnership with Action for Women. This important centre provides 3 key pillars of support: education, livelihoods and protection.
Key responsibilities of the job include:
Teaching and Preparing English Lessons and Workshops
Helping to develop programmes of learning activities and adapting appropriate materials
Provide social support including creating an environment to build the confidence, resilience and self-esteem of participants
Motivating and encouraging students
Attending weekly Meetings
Reporting any child or adult protection concerns
Remaining flexible based on the project needs
Help out with Childcare if needed
Cleaning of the spaces twice a day along with the rest of the volunteer team
Working fairly with mixed ages, nationalities and genders
Your set of skills:
Experience in teaching, ESL, social work, youth work, or project-based activities
An awareness of migration issues and sensitivity to working with vulnerable communities
You share our vision of a world in which everyone has equal chances to education.
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Multi-Tasker who performs well under pressure.
Willing to give long hours in a variety of roles and tasks
Volunteers are responsible for covering transport costs to and from and to Athens. Shared accommodation is provided in our volunteer flat, though we each contribute a small amount (10€ weekly for Accommodation, 15€-20€ weekly for food) to shared apartment pot every week to cover some of the flat costs and to purchase communal food.
Minimum commitment: 6 weeks
