Duties and Qualifications

UNHCR work in Ecuador includes: Â' Protecting of refugees by supporting the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility, the Ministry of Government, the Public Defender's Office, the Ombudsman's Office, the GADs and other State institutions. Promoting public policies, administrative practices and specific interventions that ensure access to the territory and guarantee refugee rights.

Â' Coordinating response actions in favor of refugees together with other agencies of the United Nations System, non-governmental organizations and civil society.

Â' Facilitating access to information for refugees on their rights, humanitarian assistance, legal orientation and access to services.

Â' Promoting a favorable environment for the socioeconomic integration of refugees in the country. UNHCR leads livelihood projects aimed at improving their entrepreneurial skills and access to employment. We also work to ensure that refugees have access to bank accounts, credit cards and microcredits, in coordination with financial services entities in the public and private sectors.

Â' Seeking durable solutions that include the strategic use of resettlement as an instrument of protection and as a tool of solidarity, as well as voluntary repatriation to the future.

Â' Counteracting xenophobia and discrimination together with civil society and state agencies, through campaigns designed to promote solidarity and peaceful coexistence.

Purpose and Scope of Assignment

Â' Regularly monitor media and local situation regarding UNHCR

Â' Compile and distribute a daily news clipping service.

Â' Follow-up on administrative and logistical arrangements to organize press briefings and other events, such as workshop and conferences

Â' Develop a strategy for working with media outlets, including regular meetings with editors, workshops for journalists, communication alliances with media outlets, and regular media tours for UNHCR's key dates and events.

Â' Develop outreach strategies and communication partnerships with influencers and the private sector.

Â' Support interagency communication activities such as R4V, SART, Inclusive Cities, among others.

Â' Develop photographic coverage of the Representation's meetings and events.

Â' Perform other related duties as required.

Monitoring and Progress Controls

Â' News clipping services is distributed daily among staff.

Â' UNHCR is reflected regularly in local and national news.

Â' New alliances with media are signed.

Â' New communication alliances with influencers and private partners are signed.

Â' Journalists regularly attend UNHCRÂ's workshops.

Â' UNHCR fulfills its communications obligations within inter-agency projects.

Qualifications and Experience

a. Education

Â' BachelorÂ's degree in Communication or Public Relations is required.

Â' Education/ knowledge of fields related to Human Rights and Human Mobility will be an asset.

b. Work Experience

Â' At least three years of relevant experience in public/external relations, work with media outlets, development of communication campaigns.

Â' Experience working with Adobe programs (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere).

Â' Experience in fields related to human rights and human mobility will be an asset.
