DRC Ukraine is looking for Translator/Interpreter based in Merepha.

DRC has been operating in Ukraine for more than 10 years with emergency and durable solution interventions for assisting IDPs, returnees, Host communities, and conflict-affected populations. With the outbreak of the conflict in February 2022, DRC has shifted its programming to emergency response to meet the urgent needs of conflict-affected population in the country. Current DRC programming is focusing on protection activities such as protection monitoring, information dissemination, Individual protection assistance, and legal aid. DRC is also planning to add to the ongoing emergency protection response activities such as GBV prevention and response, Psychosocial support (PSS), and community-based protection. In addition to protection programming, DRC is currently implementing Multipurpose Cash Assistance (MPCA), NFI and Food distributions, Shelter & WASH interventions, and Economic Recovery, Humanitarian Demining and Explosive Ordnance Risk Education. The organization counts with 6 offices in the country.

Overall purpose of the role:

Responsible to facilitate and bridge communication with local authorities, community leaders and people of concern in DRC operational areas. Work closely with programme teams in trainings, meetings, after action review (AAR) to communicate effectively with audience.

You will be the Interpreter of DRC based in Kharkiv, Easter Ukraine. Responsible for listening to, understanding, and translating spoken or written statements from Ukrainian into English and English to Ukrainian. You will be responsible both for interpretation and translations of written materials (communications, guides, etc) as well as interpretation for the Base Manager and other colleagues in the team as/if needed when meeting with the Ukrainian authorities and community. You will also take part in the team meetings related to the DRC operations in the East Ukraine.

Main responsibilities

Provide accurate, impartial, and confidential interpretation in official meetings with authorities in the operational area; Participate in trainings and interpret training materials/tools, communications, etc; Translate simple documents and messages in both English and Ukrainian languages for programme benefit; Translate assessment tools and facilitate when translation is requires; Assist with administrative issues for the base office; Other duties as assigned.

Required experience and competencias

A university degree/Diploma in or related fields such as English, communication, filmmaking, public relations or equivalent - or equivalent professional qualification. To be considered for this position candidates must have the following competencies: At least 1 year's experience in a similar role, preferably in an NGO as interpreters/translators, literary translators. The candidate must have fluency in both Ukrainian and English. Cultural sensitivity: ability to build trust with clients, colleagues, and partners. Attention to detail and accuracy in work product.
