Functions

The Registry of the International Court of Justice wishes to replenish the roster of suitable candidates who could be called to temporarily serve as Text Processing Assistant in the Text Processing and Reproduction Division during public sittings of the Court and/or peak periods. Please note that, due to the COVID 19 pandemic, the incumbent may be required to work remotely.

  • Under the supervision of the Head of Division, the incumbent will perform the following duties, independently and as a member of a team:
  • accurately transcribes verbatim records of Court hearings, within a strict time frame, via DAR (Digital Audio Recording); assembles and formats the transcripts of verbatim records and their translations;
  • formats, edits and compiles documents relating to decisions of the Court and written pleadings, using Microsoft Word and other software packages such as Adobe Acrobat when necessary, in accordance with the Registry's editorial guidelines;
  • accurately inserts corrections made by translators and revisers to Registry documents;
  • performs proofreading functions, ensuring that changes have been incorporated as marked in the draft copy and alerting the responsible authority if obvious errors or discrepancies are found in a text;
  • prepares documents for storage in the electronic archives;
  • performs other related work as required.

Qualifications and requirements

Education

Completed secondary education (high school diploma or equivalent); specialist training in proofreading, accredited as appropriate by a diploma or a certificate, would be a significant asset;

Experience

  • A minimum of three years of experience in text processing, including copy editing, proofreading, typographical layout or a related area. An advanced or first-level university degree may be accepted in lieu of some of the required years of experience.
  • Relevant work experience with an international organization or international company is desirable;

Languages

Perfect command of English and working knowledge of French.
