The overall goal of the programme is to reduce theburden of disease related to environmental determinants of health including water,sanitation and hygiene and developing capacity of health sector and communitiesand reduce health impacts from climate change related events. This is envisionedto be achieved by supporting relevant ministries especially Ministry of Health indeveloping sound policies and guidelines, supporting early disease warmingsystem and collaborating with integrated disease surveillance, capacity forimplementing the policies and guidelines, generating political commitment and synergisingmulti-sectoral partnership for low carbon emission, climate resilient andsustainable health system.
Under the overall guidanceof WHO Representative and the supervision of the Technical Officer- CDS, the incumbent will assist in the following:
Essential: Essential: University degree in Public Health or Science from arecognized University.
Desirable: Desirable: Training in water and sanitation or climate change, and public health.
Essential: Essential: At least 5 years of experiencein climate change, environment health and water and sanitation.
Desirable: Desirable: Experience in implementing climate change andhealth programmes such as climate resilient health systems, integrated diseasesurveillance, research on climate change and health.
Broad knowledge of principles, practices, methods and technologies in climate change and health. Ability to coordinate and liaise well with all stakeholders including all levels of WHO but importantly external including MOH, UN agencies, Donors and DPs and close collaboration with staff members. Ability to speak and write clearly and develop reports, donor proposals and participate in high level discussions and negotiations. Ability to appreciate local conditions, culture and establish continuing good working relationships at national and regional level. Desirable: Good knowledge. of WHO/UN administrative and financial rules, process and procedures.
Essential: Expert knowledge of English.
WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 62,692 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 2544 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
