1. Background to the Assignment

Trocaire Somalia has been supporting health service delivery in Gedo region Somalia for the past 28 years, on average about 19,000 people use the health facilities every month and the majority of people of this region either rural or urb**a**n residents lack basic health services and existing primary health care services are regularly interrupted by the insecurity. The poor in urban, IDPs and semi urban areas cannot afford the private health services since they have no regular sources of income hence, most rely on these services supported by Trocaire.

2. Assignment Objectives

The overall objective of the assignment is to support Laboratory personnel in Luuq, Dollow, Garbaharey and Belet Hawa Hospital in installation, Calibration and training of DHB staff on use and maintenance of Haematology Analyser and Biochemistry machine and train on SOPs for common lab tests. The consultant will also train the laboratory staff on standard operating procedures for common laboratory tests

3. Key tasks

3.1. Calibrate Haematology analyser and Biochemistry machine.

3.2. Train the laboratory personnel on use and maintenance of the Haematology analyser and Biochemistry machine.

3.3. Train staff on the Standard operating procedures of the common laboratory tests

4. Expected Outputs

4.1. A written report on the training and performance of the laboratory staff on use of Haematology and Biochemistry machines.

4.2. Fully functional Haematology and Biochemistry machines in the 4 hospitals.

5. Timeframe

This consultancy is planned for a period of 25 days from 3rd February to 27th February 2022 at the end of this period, the process will be reviewed and the need for continued support will be evaluated.

6. Terms of Consultancy

The consultancy shall be undertaken through a standard agreement to be signed between the Trocaire Somalia and the Consultant under the laws of Somalia, which will stipulate the nature of services and the contractual obligations of parties involved.

7. Qualifications Required

· Higher Diploma or BSc in medical laboratory sciences or equivalent

· Membership and duly licenced by a professional body

8. Experience required:

· Proven experience in laboratory capacity building of Lab technicians

· At least 2 -years’ experience implementing quality management systems in a busy clinical set up

· Proven experience in microbiology laboratory capacity building.

· At least 5 years of international experience in the public health domain.

· Experience in developing technical reports and documents.

· Proven analytical and data presentation skills.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· Excellent knowledge of English and Somali
