The Supply Section manages the supply components of the China Country Programme and supports UNICEF Supply Division in shaping the market for essential supplies for children from China. In this context, a new Temporary Assistant position - Supply and Logistics Specialist - was created to support the UNICEF China in The World Initiative with sourcing of supplies and market influencing.

How can you make a difference?

The Supply and Logistics Specialist reports to the Warehouse Manager at the Supply Division's Warehouse and Inventory Management Centre (WIMC) with dotted line to China Country Office Deputy Representative-Operations. The position will be responsible for the operations of the global hub based in China, established to ensure uninterrupted access to strategic supplies for children. To be specific, you will be responsible for -

  • Supporting operationalization of the transition of the current commercial contract to free -of- charge storage space to be availed by Government.
  • Exploring available options, analyzing and recommending best case scenario for UNICEF.
  • The management of the China hub including planning of stock levels, contracts management of the third parity logistics providers, warehousing and warehouse operations, bundling of supplies, picking, packing and dispatch of stocks, monitoring of stocks and periodic and annual physical counts, partner-relations management for the hub operated with support from partners.
  • Supporting management collaboration with different centers at UNICEF Supply Division and UNICEF country offices with an aim to ensuring programmatic needs are met towards achieving results for children.
  • Providing technical and advisory support to the WIMC management as well as regional and CO colleagues related to optimal planning and utilization of stocks in the global hub.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have...

  • Education : An advanced university degree (Master's) in Business Administration, Management, Economics, International Economics, Engineering, International Development, Supply Chain Management, Supply, Logistics, Procurement, Purchasing, Contract/commercial Law or a directly related field(s) is required. A valid professional certification (CSCP; CSCM; CPSM; SCMP; etc.) from an accredited supply management institution, in conjunction with a relevant first-level university degree (Bachelor's), may be taken in lieu of an advanced university degree*. *A first level university degree (Bachelor's) in a relevant technical field (as identified above), in conjunction with seven (7) years of relevant work experience in supply, logistics, purchasing, contracting, administration and/or other directly-related technical fields, may be taken in lieu of an advanced university degree (Master's).
  • Experience : A minimum of five 5 to 8 years of relevant experience, at the national and/or international levels, in supply, logistics, warehousing, procurement, purchasing, contracting, administration and/or other related technical fields is required.
  • Languages : Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language, especially Chinese is considered as an asset.
