About SIHA

The Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa (SIHA) is a coalition of civil society organizations from Sudan, South Sudan, Uganda, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Somalia and Somaliland. SIHA was founded in 1995 by a collection of women's groups with the view of strengthening the capacities of women organizations in the Horn of Africa countries. SIHA advocates for social change and gender equality for men and women in the Horn region and works specifically on: gender equality, women rights activism, women economic empowerment, eliminating violence against women and girls, promoting human rights, peace building and conflict transformation, enhancing women’s leadership and political participation and the production and dissemination of knowledge. Job Summary

The Sudan Programme Coordinator (SPC) is a senior post within SIHA. She/he will manage a portfolio of projects and related activities and contribute to further refine SIHA’s strategy and its effective implementation. The SPC will be responsible for the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of all SIHA Sudan Programmes. The Sudan Programme Coordinator will work under the supervision of the Regional Programme Manager and Regional Director and work in collaboration with the Regional team. The Sudan Programme Coordinator will oversee all Sudan programme staff and work closely with the Head of Finance.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for overall programme planning, management, implementation and quality assurance;
  • To ensure quality project implementation, outputs and outcomes;
  • To ensure compliance with all donor financial and reporting requirements;
  • To develop and maintain positive relations with donors, partners, and member organisations;
  • To work in collaboration with SIHA regional team to develop strategic plans and programme development for Sudan office;

· To review and contribute to reports, research, articles or any other documents produced by SIHA in the course of its work and ensure high quality outputs.

  • To work closely with the Regional Advocacy and Communications team to plan and oversee implementation of advocacy and communication activities;
  • To support in the development of policy papers , statements and briefing that would need to be produced by SIHA out of Sudan office working in close collaboration with the Regional Advocacy and Communications Officer;
  • To build the monitoring and evaluation capacity of SIHA Sudan team and support the development of monitoring plans in cooperation with the regional team;
  • To support in the development and implementation of internal office management systems that ensure compliance with SIHA policies and procedures;
  • To build the reporting and documentation capacities of SIHA Sudan team and ensure quality and timely reporting of all activities and projects;
  • To facilitate SIHA Sudan program work and coordinate ongoing activities while ensuring quality and effective delivery;
  • To support SIHA operational staff and suggest opportunities to SIHA management for staff capacity building and skills development;

    Profile

    The candidate for this position should have strong knowledge and understanding of Sudan in particular, and the Greater Horn of Africa region in general, specifically, Sudan, South Sudan, Somalia, Somaliland, Djibouti, Kenya and Ethiopia. A commitment to women’s rights and the principles of gender equality and interest in social movements is essential, with proven track-record on right-based programming being a precondition for shortlisting. SIHA will be interested in individual applicants with commitment to indigenous civil society organizations and their essential role in promoting the improvement of conditions for women and girls across the Horn of Africa.

    Other Requirements

    · Strong combination of studies and work experience in the fields of women’s rights, human rights, and development in the African context, East and Horn of Africa and/ or Middle East & North Africa;**

    · Have at least 6 years of work experience, with at least 2 years of managerial experience, in the field of gender and/or development cooperation preferably within civil society, human rights NGOs or donor organizations;**

    · Strong academic background, with Masters-level education preferable;**

    · Strong management skills, including positive and pro-active management of human resources**

    · Flexibility and ability to shift priorities based on changes in context;**

    · Good understanding of the Greater Horn of Africa political and social context, and knowledge of the regional and international mechanisms/dynamics influencing the region;**

    · Have experience and understanding of project cycle management, including monitoring and evaluation, results-based management, technical and financial reporting;**

    · Strong writing skills – fluency in written and spoken English is a prerequisite, with knowledge of other regional languages considered an asset;**

    · Strong communication, networking and advocacy skills;**

    · Strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage priorities, work under pressure and meet tight deadlines;**

    · Have the willingness to travel around the region, often in areas affected by conflict or instability;**

    · Previous exposure to international and/or multicultural /multilingual environment –Able to function effectively within a multi-cultural team;**

    · Strong sense of initiative and creativity is desirable;**

    · Ability and experience in staff management and capacity building preferable;**

    · Curiosity, willingness to ‘learn while doing’ and a strong and genuine interest in the Horn of Africa, particularly in Horn women and girls and their strengths and challenges, is essential;**
