UNICEF Pacific is a multi-country office that promotes the rights and wellbeing of every child in the Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Samoa, the Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu. The UNICEF Pacific Multi-country Office is located in Suva, Fiji. There are Field Offices in Vanuatu, the Solomon Islands and Kiribati. These 14 Pacific Island Countries and Territories (PICTs) are home to 2.4 million people, close to one million children, living on more than 660 islands and atolls stretching across 17.2 million square kilometers of the Pacific Ocean.

Working as part of the Policy, Evidence and Social Protection Unit. The post combines high level technical expertise, sound statistical (or demographic) knowledge with partnering, systems and capacity building skills towards disaggregated data about children that feeds in systematically into equity analysis, advocacy, programming and policy making the Pacific. Hence agility, persuasive and partnering attitudes are critical in interpreting guidelines, adaptation of data collection/analytical tools, methodologies and operationalizing strategic evidence generation; driving results for most deprived populations.

How can you make a difference?

The incumbent is expected to lead the planning, implementation, analysis, reporting, and use of Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (MICS), other child relevant surveys such as the Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) and data sources and management/monitoring tools, to profile child deprivations for actions. The incumbent will also support further analysis and dissemination of MICS, censuses, administrative data collection systems and other child-related data to enhance evidence based programme and policy actions to close child deprivation gaps across the 14 Pacific Island Countries and Territories (PICTs) and; contribute to learning and sharing on Data for Children and the monitoring, reporting and accountability on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to the rights of children.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Education: Advanced university degree in demography, statistics, epidemiology, economics and other social sciences.

Experience:

Five years of relevant professional work experiencein the coordination and/or management of quantitative household surveys (MICS or Demographic and Health Survey (DHS); Developing country work experience (for IP) or field work experience (for NO)

Strong computer skills and strong expertise in statistical analyses (familiarity with data processing and data analysis software, particularly SPSS and STATA);

Experience with CAPI data collection;

Training experience and ability to organize and facilitate training and presentations;

Experience in data analysis and survey report writing.

At least one instance of exposure to emergency programming, including preparedness planning. Active involvement in a humanitarian crisis response programme preferred.

Language Requirements: Fluency in English and another UN language.
