• Implement simple and effective data collection systems to ensure the update, the consolidation and analysis at the central level by:
    • Performing GIS analysis of data to create maps, dashboards and other outputs that integrate large quantities of data and provide context and insights relevant to mission objectives; with guidance by the CIMO
    • Assist in creating maps to complement presentations by the department 
    • Assist in establishing mapping procedures around developing and maintaining a community of practice around spatial mapping tools and systems. This will be mainly coordinated by the CIMO through the Resilience Secretariat and HCT.
    • Technical assessment and identification of the most suitable satellite imagery and geospatial datasets to support the needs of the unit for operational national monitoring systems, land cover and land use assessments, climate change and adaptation, and disaster risk reduction;
    • Assist in the activation of the relevant satellite imagery services during disaster emergencies like flooding
    • Image pre-processing of satellite/drone captured data, including mosaicking, stacking, atmospheric corrections and perform other tasks as requested by the respective supervisor, as appropriate.
    • Assist district staff in the processing and use of satellite/drone captured data
  • Manage key Digital Mapping data (geospatial data including metadata preparation in the online databases DMIS (Malawi) and https://data.hdx.rwlabs.org including http://www.masdap.mw/ as needed.
  • Manage structured archive of spatial data, both digital and manual, collected from partners, documents and analysis products generated by DoDMA. 
  • Reinforce the capacity of staff in Districts by performing field information management missions linked to the DoDMA Information Management Strategy.
  • Perform any other duties related to the information management assigned supervisor

  • Relevant bachelor’s degree (Geographic Information Systems, GIS Data Management, Geospatial Information Science & Technology, Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation, Applied Remote Sensing for Earth Sciences, etc) with relevant certifications in Arts, Graphic Design, Statistics, Disaster Management, Emergency Management, Geographic Information Systems, Information Management, Information Systems, Professional Studies, Social Sciences or a related field.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of relevant professional experience in the fields of activity concerned (collection and data processing for graphic design and creation of Infographics.) including GIS and spatial data managemeht
  • Thorough knowledge in the use of computers and software (MS Word, Excel, etc.), current use of spreadsheets, Infographic software’s (Excellent knowledge of Adobe Creative software (Illustrator, Indesign and Photoshop); and experience in the use of applications or electronic management system.
  • Good understanding and experience in GIS and spatial data management 
  • Knowledge in the field of database management is an asset.
  • Fluency in oral and written English is essential;
  • Knowledge of local language is desirable
