Description of the Organization:

For more than 30 years, Médecins du Monde, a campaigning medical organization committed to international solidarity, has been caring for the most vulnerable populations at home and abroad. It has continued to highlight obstacles that exist in accessing health care and has secured sustainable improvements in health-for-all policies. Those working for this independent organization do not solely dispense care and treatment but condemn violations of human dignity and rights and fight to improve matters for populations living in precarious situations.

MdM currently works in 46 countries across all continents where it focuses on 4 priority areas: caring for the health of migrants and displaced persons, promoting sexual and reproductive health, combating HIV and reducing the harm and risks associated with drug use, crises and conflicts.

MdM Greece has been active in Greece for 25 years, developing quality of care , improving access and advocating for the right to health for all people. It also thrives to promote good management of the health facilities it supports.

Summary of the position:

The social worker will be under the supervision of the Field Coordinator and technically under the Protection Officer.

Duties and Responsibilities:**

§ Plan, organize and provide social services in consultation with the Protection Officer.

§ Conduct Periodic Mapping of Services at a local level inside and outside the camp

§ Develop and expand a support network of services and service providers and refer PoCs accordingly

§ Liaison work with public agencies, non-governmental organisations and collaboration with the wider local network of social services.

§ Cooperate as indicated with the rest of the departments of the organization.

§ Provide information on available services in general and specifically for health-related matters.

§ Refer refugees to the health care system and arrange appointments that can derive from doctors, mid wives and psychologists’ referral.

§ Accompany beneficiaries to the hospital when indicated. (Serious medical incident, when in doubt as to refugee’s access to health care, if not accompanied, etc)

§ Mediate for unhindered access to the national health care system.

§ Regularly follow up to ensure referral / case plan is carried out.

§ Document services provided and collect data for reporting and statistical purposes (i.e. rate and number of visits per set time frames)

§ Participate in coordination mtgs at the site upon consultation with Protection Officer and the Field Coordinator.

§ Attend training seminars and conferences upon consultation with the Protection Officer.

§ Search and keep updated relevant new legislation

Requirements for the post:**

§ Degree in Social Work education

§ License to practice

§ Prior professional experience

§ Excellent communication skills

§ Skills of cooperation and coordination within the team

§ Ability to work under pressure, taking initiative, ability of organization and supervision, ability to solve problems in everyday situations of crisis

§ Excellent knowledge of computing

§ Languages: Fluency in Greek and English

§ Knowledge of Farsi/Arabic will be an asset
