GAIN is looking for an environmental specialist who can bring new knowledge to the organisation and create energy and momentum around the environmental agenda via programmatic impact. The Senior Technical Officer will work alongside the Programme Services Team to create and nurture impactful partnerships and collaborations and help address our organisational environmental sustainability.
This is a fixed term position, with the expectation that it will operate for five years, subject to funding. The role is open to applicants based in London, United Kingdom; Delhi, India; Utrecht, The Netherlands or Nairobi, Kenya.

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is a Swiss-based foundation launched at the UN in 2002 to tackle the human suffering caused by malnutrition. Working with both governments and businesses, we aim to transform food systems so that they deliver more nutritious food for all people. In particular, we aim to make healthier food choices more desirable, more available, and more affordable. GAIN’s mission is to advance nutrition outcomes by improving consumption of nutritious and safe food for all people, especially the most vulnerable to malnutrition.
About the Role
GAIN’s Board approved a new Environment Strategy towards the end of 2020, committing the organisation to take action on three pillars; creating more awareness on the undeniable, intrinsic relationship between food systems and environment; analysing, developing and testing integrated programme implementation towards sustainable diets; and reducing the organisation’s own environmental footprint. Following our involvement with the United Nations Food Summit, we aspire to be an exemplar on how to be a green nutrition machine. This new role will work across the organisation to make that aspiration a reality.
GAIN is looking for an environmental specialist who can: bring new knowledge to the organisation and create momentum around the environment agenda via programmatic impact; create and nurture impactful partnerships and collaborations, and help address our organisational environmental sustainability.
Specific Responsibilities include;
About You
You will be an environmental scientist or similarly qualified professional with solid experience in fundraising, having worked with key donors, government and internal/external stakeholders to meet targets. You should have an in-depth understanding of programme issues and advocacy work at organizational, national and international levels, as well as experience leading and managing programme development (ideally in Africa and/or Asia). The role would suit someone with strong analytical and technical competence in the areas of environment, climate change, food systems or nutrition, as well as excellent communication and organizational skills.
In addition, you should be qualified at Masters’ degree level in environmental science or a related field. Fluency in written and verbal English is essential.
