The main purpose of this position is to provide critical support to the organization's core social media and digital communication functions and to play a key role in shaping the public voice of Save the Children Canada on digital and social channels. Working under the direction of the Head, Communications, PR & Media as a member of a three-person Communications Unit, the Senior Specialist, Social Media and Digital Communications, is primarily responsible for delivering social media and digital communications strategies and executing on them, ensuring that Save the Children Canada’s public voice reflects and conveys the organization’s mission, values, focus and identity. 

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

Social Media 

Develop, drive and execute an ambitious social media strategy with measurable KPIs to grow our social media channels in support of organizational brand, advocacy, communications and fundraising objectives. Manage Save the Children Canada’s social media and digital channels, including creating and posting content, managing comments, scheduling content. Post created or curated content within social and digital channels to ensure an interactive, two-way, engaged conversation between Save the Children and its audiences, while ensuring that responses and postings are accurate and reflect Save the Children’s policies on child safeguarding, information sharing and branding guidelines and standards.Work closely with the Head of Communications, PR & Media and the Head of Advocacy and Policy to roll out campaigns digitally, in alignment with SCC’s campaign strategy.Support on brand and media strategy through social media platforms and coordination. Support the influencer growth strategy with research and engagement with online influencers. Deliver ongoing social media training and support for organizational capacity building, profile and public engagement. Social media monitoring and reporting.

Content and collateral design and development 

Commission and produce creative digital content for communications, social media, media, web and digital channels (i.e. videos, photos, case studies, blogs, supporter engagement/stewardship content, program PR content). Design and produce digital communications materials for campaign and special projects (i.e. newsletters, emails, eNews, petitions, international days, etc.) and support the production process in-house and in collaboration with external stakeholders, including vendors and global communications colleagues to ensure accurate and timely production of digital collateral that reflects Save the Children’s branding guidelines and standards.

Digital and Website Support 

Manage deployment of newsletters and other digital communications. Provide digital analytics based on the digital and social media strategy.Support with maintaining and updating website content. Curate and upload content onto the Content Management System and manage technical support to ensure the website is up to date and accurate, while adhering to Save the Children branding and editorial standards and guidelines.Monitor web, social and digital channels to create compelling reports outlining key learnings, analytics and actionable recommendations to help achieve overall organizational goals and digital strategy.

Media Relations 

Under the direction of the Head of Communications, Media and Public Relations provide content and materials in support of media relations activities, including video, photos and stories, as needed. Provide media relations support on an ad hoc basis as needed, including during times with limited staffing and during emergencies, including coordinating media interviews and pitching journalists. Oversee the monitoring and reporting of media coverage and provide regular reporting and analysis, utilizing media monitoring tools 

Other 

Support employees, volunteers and stakeholders in their digital interactions with Save the Children.Support on strategy research as required.Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications & Competencies (include but are not limited to):

Bachelor degree required, preferably in Communications, Social Media or Journalism or equivalent years of work experience 

Minimum of 2 years’ experience in related fieldExperience with website content management systems (Luminate Online, Wordpress) Experience managing social media channels(Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIN, YouTube and Instagram)Experience with online acquisition (Adwords) and reporting tools (Facebook Insights, Google Analytics, Twitter Analytics)Knowledge of website and social media best practices, AODA and CASLProficient in Adobe Creative Suite 5 (Photoshop, InDesign) an asset Experience building and maintaining internal and external partnerships and relationships

Exceptional and demonstrable written and oral communications skills in all mediums Work effectively, independently and with others Adaptability and flexibility to adjust to multiple and conflicting priorities and deadlines Ability to work some evenings and weekends as required (especially during global humanitarian emergencies involving different time zones)  Demonstrate strong commitment to Save the Children’s Mission, Vision and Values. = Adhere to Child Safeguarding policies & procedures Subject to police background check: vulnerable sector screeningProficiency in English requiredComputer literacy including Internet, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)

Salary Range: $70,150 - $84,180
