IRW is currently recruiting for the position of ‘Senior Legal Counsel' to join its dynamic Legal team. The purpose of the role is to provide, with minimal supervision and support, legal advice to the organisation, both directly and through external lawyers, to ensure that the organisation assesses and addresses the legal implications of its operations with the purpose of helping the organisation to be as effective as possible in achieving its objectives, vision and mission. S/he will support General Counsel and work with the Legal Team in maintaining global oversight of legal issues that affect the Islamic Relief family of organisations.

The work of the legal team covers a broad range of areas and requires a confident individual who can use their legal skills and apply them to all aspects of legal work within an international charity. This includes but is not limited to:

· Compliance and regulatory;

· Contract and commercial;

· Intellectual Property;

· Property;

· Data Protection;

· Employment & HR; and

· Litigation (Dispute Resolution).

You will be a vital component in advising and supporting our team based in Birmingham and our overseas offices. You will support General Counsel and the leadership team in representing IRW with key stakeholders including the Charity Commission and donors. There will also be opportunities to travel and see our work in the field.

This role requires an all-rounder with good judgment and the experience and confidence to hit the ground running.

The successful candidate must have or be:

· UK qualified solicitor

· Extensive post-qualification experience at an advanced level in various areas of law. Must demonstrate they have led cases or matters in these areas

· Proven experience of working in a demanding and varied legal and compliance environment. This must be at a high level with responsibility for decision making

· Proven knowledge and experience of the current political and regulatory environment in which IRW work

· Proven ability to provide practical, reliable legal advice to senior officials within an organisation (i.e. direct input to a senior management team)

· Proven ability to manage a team and a budget
