Reports to: Director of Policy and Partnerships, Lesotho.

Location: Maseru, Lesotho

Travel: Some in-country travel to hard-to-reach health facilities

Position Summary

PIH is seeking a Senior Development Officer who will manage a pipeline of donors and local partners and drive diversification of funding and partnerships. The Senior Development Officer will monitor a range of platforms and existing donors and cultivate a funding strategy to identify funding opportunities. Collaborating with various Departments, they will lead proposal development, facilitate internal collaboration, and identify opportunities of partnerships with local stakeholders. The Senior Development Officer will deploy best practices in identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding donors and prospects, building a strong, sustainable community of donors and partners in Lesotho.

Reporting to the Director of Policy and Partnerships for Lesotho, the Senior Development Officer will be joining a national team and will be supported by a larger team of donor researchers, stewardship professionals, and communication experts. This position will be based at the Main Office in Maseru, Lesotho.

Responsibilities

  • Drive development of competitive requests for funding, including the production of letters of inquiry, proposals, and grant applications for existing and prospective donors
  • Maintain detailed records of proposal submission, stewardship, and reporting activities.
  • Works closely with senior leadership in proposal development process.
  • Communicate donor needs to senior leadership, technical teams and partners
  • Support teams to troubleshoot challenges, connecting resources where available.
  • Respond to donor queries in a timely manner, with the appropriate input solicited from relevant team members.
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward a portfolio of top-tier donors and prospects.
  • Uses sophisticated prospect research techniques to help grow the PIH, Lesotho donor portfolio.
  • Connect with prospecting donors to identify points of alignment and collaboration.
  • Maintain strong relationships with priority partner organizations for collaboration, information-sharing, and collective advocacy.
  • Develops fluency in global health and PIH programmatic activities and goals.
  • Collaborate with PIH cross-site team to effectively build out proposals and donor engagement.
  • Work closely with Director of Policy and Partnership on appropriate donor and partnership strategies.

    Qualifications

    • Masters level (MBA, MPH, or equivalent)
    • 3-5 years of experience, including proven results in major gift giving
    • Excellent writing skills, including the ability to produce compelling donor proposals.
    • Experience working with senior leaders to collaboratively achieve fundraising goals.
    • Proven ability to use metrics to drive development decisions and achieve strategic objectives.
    • Knowledge of development best resource mobilization and partnership practices and the ability to apply them in innovative ways.
    • Knowledge of local philanthropic landscape and experience working within Lesotho
    • Exemplary interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate effectively with culturally diverse staff across departments and country offices in a complex organization.
    • Strong collaboration and team work skills
    • Ready to work under pressure of tight deadlines for proposal submission
    • Capable of traveling to all PIH supported facilities in the rural areas to meet the frontline health care workers and assess their needs to continuously improve quality of services
    • IT competency: Teams; Microsoft Office; databases
    • Fluent in English verbally and written.
