The threat against the United Nations senior officials requires a comprehensive security management strategy of which executive security support based on Security Risk Management (SRM) assessments is one component and continuous threat analysis is another. The UNDP Security Office monitors threat information and provides security support to UNDP senior managers in line with current threat analysis.
Based at UN New York Headquarters and reporting to the UNDP HQ Security Specialist, the Security Associate will focus on providing executive security support to UNDP Senior Managers through the implementation of the UN/UNDP and host country protection policies and procedures, as well as through the application of the United Nations Security Management System (UNSMS) best practices. S/he will also provide security support to the Headquarters crisis management structure as and when directed by the UNDP HQ Security Specialist. S/he will carry out the responsibilities outlined below in support of the safety and security regime developed for UNDP senior managers at HQ, or as directed by UNDP Security Office Management.
The incumbent of this position provides overall support to the UNDP Senior Managers through an effective and efficient implementation of the security policies and procedures. S/he plays a crucial role in terms of the executive security of UNDP senior management and their dependents, as well as in the training and preparedness of UNDP HQ personnel.2. Driving and Maintenance
Manages the day-to-day secure movements of UNDP senior managers, their families, and other high ranking officials, and carries out all other assignments assigned. Operates UNDP executive vehicle for the safe transport of authorized passengers; Conducts an advance review of travel itineraries in order to determine the safest travel routes, location of emergency services, and available emergency response options; Reviews and recommends special security enhancements to the vehicle when required; Oversees the maintenance repair and cleanliness of the UNDP executive vehicle; Performs daily safety and security inspections of the vehicle and its associated emergency equipment; Ensures the upkeep of maintenance and repaid documents associated with the vehicle; Maintains official logbook of travel, daily mileage and energy consumption for the vehicle; Ensures that established SOP is implemented in case of a vehicle accident or other emergency; Coordinates special services required for visits of foreign dignitaries/VIPs to UNDP offices at HQ.3. Administrative Tasks
Addresses requirements for the Administrator by coordinating her/his schedule and special services required for visits of foreign dignitaries/VIPs; Ensures that the steps required by UNDP rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in an accident; Ensures that communication channels with local law enforcement are effective; Continuously reviews local emergency laws and instructions, advising on changes, in order to ensure that senior managers’ security regime is effectively employed; Remains abreast of local news media for pertinent threat information.4. Learning
Devotes time on learning and self-development in the area of Risk Mitigation, Treat Analysis and defensive driving techniques; Remains abreast of international security trends; Remains abreast of developing electronic security techniques and procedures; Remains abreast of safety and security training opportunities for UNDP personnel.Competencies

Education:
Secondary Education is required; University degree (Bachelor´s degree) in a relevant discipline will be given due consideration but is not a requirement. Having a Personal Protection Specialist (PPS) Certification or equivalent Executive Protection Training is an advantage but not a requirement. Formal Certification in Defensive Driving is required.Experience:
A minimum of six (6) years with Secondary Education or three (3) years with a Bachelor’s Degree of relevant work experience in security, policing emergency services or the military, is required; Prior experience in personal protection for governmental or executive VIPs is a plus; Knowledge of security risk management practices is desirable.Language:
