Organizational Setting

The Department of Management (MT) provides a 'platform of services' that serves as a foundation for the successful delivery of the IAEA's scientific and technical programmes. Its mission statement is as follows: "MT is a partner and a business enabler that champions change and efficiency, leveraging a common purpose". Thus, among other support activities, it assists a scientific manager in recruiting the right expert, helps a technical officer coordinate the purchase of radiation equipment, and ensures that all Board documents are translated and distributed on a timely basis to Member States.

The Division of General Services provides service functions throughout the IAEA such as travel and transport support, facilities management, archives and records management, and management of the VIC Commissary. It has five sections.

The Commissary Management Section manages the Commissary at the Vienna International Centre. The Commissary is a tax and duty-free store that is operated under the authority of the Director General of the IAEA. It was established as a self-sustaining and non-profit making operation in order to facilitate the purchase of limited quantities of consumer goods by the diplomats of Permanent Missions of Member States accredited to the UN organizations, staff members of the UN organizations based at the VIC as well as of other authorized organizations.

Main Purpose

Under the immediate supervision of the Supervisor, Cosmetics and Boutique Group and the general supervision of the Unit Head and working as a team member, the incumbent actively sells the various products in the Cosmetics/Textiles Boutiques, deals with customer queries, replenishes shelves and performs cashier duties, and performs all assigned duties independently.

Functions / Key Results Expected

Actively sell all products in the Cosmetics/Textiles Boutiques; provide professional consulting services to customers regarding product suitability for individual requirements; respond to queries and special requests of customers on relevant product information.

Collect boxes/cases of merchandise from assigned product lines from the Warehouse, open them, and replenish the shelves using mobile computing devices to check availability of stock and report any discrepancies. Ensure appropriate storage of products as well as their timely transfer to the sales floor. Place products correctly according to planograms and merchandising guidelines. For products not labelled with barcodes, print out and attach to the product the relevant Commissary article numbers. Ensure that designated merchandise has the appropriate security tags attached.

Operate cash registers in the Salesroom at times of high customer frequency by scanning merchandise with barcode price label scanner; check if billed amounts match the number of items purchased; receive payments from customers which may be in cash or debit cards. Count received cash payments based on change indicated on the cash register, return accurate change to customers. At the end of the shift, print out the "end of day cash register" slip and hand the total cash intake with the slip to the Supervisor. If required, collect change money from the bank and take cash intake to the bank.

Ensure that only authorized persons are allowed to make purchases by checking grounds passes and pictures at the cash register. Interact with customers and address routine queries/complaints from customers; refer more complex queries/complaints to Supervisor.

Carry responsibility for assigned product lines for which he/she takes over and issues the Goods Received Reports, by verifying correctness of the delivery against delivery papers or invoice. Ensure appropriate storage of products, as well as their proper and timely transfer to the Cosmetics/Textiles Boutiques.

Backstop for Information Desk Clerk.

Assist in the established book-stock adjustment procedures and take part in the yearly inventory.

Qualifications, Experience and Language skills

  • Completed secondary education.
  • Completed apprenticeship as a sales clerk in the retail industry is an asset.
  • Good health and physical fitness to carry out moderately strenuous work.
  • Minimum of two years of relevant experience in the field of cosmetics sales; familiarity with the extensive range of cosmetic products on the market and minimum of one year of working experience involving cashier duties, including operation of related EDP equipment.
  • Experience in data entry applications and basic clerical experience are essential.
  • Good oral and written command of English and German. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.
  • English language test (level 2) to IAEA standard.

Remuneration

The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at EUR 35426 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), 6 weeks' annual vacation, pension plan and health insurance

Appointment is subject to a satisfactory medical report. Recruitment will be on a LOCAL BASIS only.
