The purpose of the Area Manager position is to ensure high quality and cost-effective programme/project implementation within the designated geographical areas. The Area Manager has the responsibility to ensure that NRC´s programme in the area develops in line with NRC’s mandate, policies, and country specific strategies.

General Responsibilities: Line management for senior project staff and support functions (and Field Office Coordinators) in the area, including performance management and capacity building. Member of the Country Management Group (CMG) Compliance with and adherence to NRC policies, guidance, and procedures Provide area specific input on Core Competency Strategies, Country Strategy and Plan of Action, based on needs assessment and development of sound response plans Implementation of projects (including master support budget and coordinating input for donor proposals and reports) in the area, in compliance with contractual commitments (i.e. quality, synergies, timeliness, use of resources), organize grants opening, review and closure meetings at area level Ensure optimal use of resources within the allocated project budgets and Core Competency Strategies  Represent NRC and networking on area level and contribute to the advocacy strategy Ensure overall security and safety of staff in the area

Specific Responsibilities: Development of strategies, concept papers and situation analysis Develop close cooperation with the target group and local authorities Planning of programme/project assessments and evaluations Ensure quality implementation of projects, and regular follow ups and quality control points and reports, as well as optimal use of financial resources Ensure that all NRC systems for programme administration and financial management are implemented and adhered to Ensure that systems for monitoring programme/project activities are developed and implemented Coordinating NRC programme activities with national authorities, United Nations agencies and other national and international agencies/organisations

General Professional competencies for this position: Minimum first level university degree in relevant and related field Minimum 5 years of experience as a senior Project Manager in a humanitarian/ recovery context Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile Fluency in English, both written and verbal

Context specific knowledge and skills Experience working with displacement-affected populations Experience with a range of donors, with specific experience and knowledge of ECHO, EU, UNHCR, UNICEF and other major donors Experience in organizational representation, coordination, and liaison, dealing with institutional actors and government authorities Proven experience in management of multi-cultural teams Experience in working in the East Africa Region and preferably in Ethiopia.
