Duties and Qualifications The Finance Associate processes financial transactions, provides technical support to UNHCR offices in the Field and monitors compliance with applicable financial rules and regulations. The day-to-day duties of the Finance Associate may vary slightly depending on the specific area of responsibility. Generally, the duties include:
¿ Process assigned transactions and payment cycles as applicable accurately, and timely accordance with UNHCR rules and procedures.
¿ Provide technical support on processing and payment of AP transactions to Field Offices, Regional Bureaux and HQ divisions.
¿ Monitor compliance by users in different entities with the relevant financial rules, regulations and procedures. Bring issues related to non-compliance to the attention of supervisors, and actively pursue such cases.
¿ Escalate to supervisors any indication of breach in the internal control system, including suspected fraud.
¿ Prepare ad-hoc and recurring reports, analyses, and reconciliations on assigned accounts/areas of responsibility.
¿ Monitor and follow up on open items, variances, errors, and other issues related to voucher and payment processing as applicable.
¿ Liaise with relevant counterparts to obtain information and verify data on accounts and financial transactions including more complex cases, as required.
¿ Carry out month-end and year-end closing activities and propose additional instructions for such activities.
¿ Identify possibilities for improving processes and recommend ways to improve cooperation between key stakeholders at different geographic locations. Implement agreed improvements.
¿ Prepare and maintain standard operating procedures, guidance, and training materials for areas under his/her responsibility.
¿ Perform other related duties as required.

Required professional background and skills

¿ 3 years relevant experience with High School Diploma; or 2 years relevant work experience with bachelor¿s degree or equivalent or higher is required*.
¿ Experience with ERP financial modules (PeopleSoft, Oracle or SAP).
¿ Professional level of written and spoken English is required. Additional UN, Polish and Ukrainian language skills are a plus
¿ Self-motivator and team player with strong interpersonal skills.
¿ Experience with PeopleSoft (MSRP) Finance applications or with accrual accounting (IPSAS, IFRS, or similar) is a plus.
¿ Experience in a Shared Service Center is a plus.
