Search is seeking a Researcher to support the MEAL and project team in carrying out the mapping activity.

Position Summary

    • The Researcher will support the MEAL and project team in carrying out the mapping activity which will identify civil society organizations (CSOs), peacebuilding initiatives ,and key institutional actors, for the “Advancing Inclusive Peace and Security” project in the Levant and Yemen which seeks to strengthen women and youth’s meaningful, enduring participation in advancing inclusive peace and security. S/he will work under the direct supervision of the MEAL Manager and in close coordination with the Research coordinator, Project Managers, and on an occasional basis, s/he will work with the Regional Institutional Learning team based in Brussels. This position will supervise the data collectors.

      Roles and Responsibilities

        • The position will lead the mapping activities in only two countries in the Levant. S/he will more specifically have the following Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
        • Support in the desk review stage utilising available resources of previous mapping conducted by Search and other organizations.
        • Support the MEAL team in the design of the tools and methodology.
        • Train the data collectors on the methodology and tools.
        • Lead the data collection process.
        • Perform quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
        • Provide a master excel sheet of the three mapping; 1) Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), 2) peacebuilding initiatives, and 3) key institutional actors for the two levant countries.
        • Provide two mapping reports (one per country).

          Expected deliverables

            • Two Draft reports (one for each country) for review by Search staff.
            • Two Final reports that consist of -amongst other things- the following elements:
            • Executive summary;
            • Table of contents;
            • Methodology;
            • Research findings and conclusions with associated data presented in line with the agreed tools and questions;
            • Recommendation for decision making; and
            • Appendices which include detailed research instruments, list of interviewees, master excel sheets.

              Required Profile

                • Education
                • Bachelor’s degree in research methodologies, social sciences or related disciplines;
                • Master degree is preferable. Experience:
                • Proficiency in English;
                • More than 5 years of experience in project evaluation or the equivalent in DM&E expertise, including collecting data in interviews, surveys and focus groups;
                • Experience in working with international organizations;
                • Experience conducting large-scale quantitative surveys;
                • Evaluation methods and data collection skills;
                • Solid communication skills, cultural awareness and sensitivity;
                • Demonstrated ability to write high quality, methodologically sound and analytical papers in English;
                • Ability to work with people from various social and professional backgrounds and at all levels, (high-level officials to community leaders…);
                • Knowledgeable of local governance (municipalities) context; and
                • Experience in social stability and peace-building in rural areas would be an asset.Posting closing date: 21 August 2022.
