The International Water Management Institute (IWMI), a CGIAR Research Center is looking for a competent, self-motivated, and dynamic candidate to join as the Research Officer- Water quality and waste management. The research officer will contribute to the CGIAR Initiative \u201cProtecting human health through a One Health approach\u201d, and potentially other projects. The Research Officer is expected to provide scientific and technical assistance to relevant project leaders and researchers on livestock waste and wastewater management, waterborne pathogens monitoring and health risk assessments.

Duties AND Responsibilities:

Design and conduct nationwide field surveys on livestock waste and wastewater management, waterborne zoonotic pathogens monitoring and health risk assessments. Support in data collection through questionnaires, surveys, monitoring campaigns and literature, as well as processing and interpreting of such data as needed Support in technical writing and reporting, including intermediate reports, final reports, papers and proposals. Conduct interviews (community, farmers, authorities, etc.) and assist to conduct stakeholder meetings Assist in the development of policies, guidelines, manuals covering waste and wastewater management, waterborne pathogens monitoring and health risk assessments. Support project communication activities Supervise consultants and intens when appropriate

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Essential:

MSc or equivalent academic qualifications in agricultural science/engineering, environmental science/engineering or any related field. At least 5 years\u2019 professional experience in the areas of waste and wastewater management, waterborne zoonotic pathogens monitoring and/or health risk assessments, ideally with related research. Excellent understanding of livestock waste and water management in Ethiopia Experience in conducting high-profile to community level interviews and managing regional field surveys. Experience in data collection and analysis Proficiency in MS Office applications and in database management Good technical and scientific writing Ability to effectively establish priorities, and plan, organize, implement and monitor work activities with limited supervision Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English. Good interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with people in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary environment, with sensitivity and respect for diversity.

TERMS OF THE APPOINTMENT

This is a nationally recruited position and only citizens of Ethiopia are encouraged to apply. The duration of the contract will initially be for a period of 3 years with the possibility of extension based on performance and availability of funds.
