The Role
The Research Officer will be responsible for contributing to the evidence gathering, monitoring and evaluation (M&E) needs of the project. Working closely with TWB’s Head of Research and MEAL, the Research Officer will be tasked with investigating key language barriers contributing to communication challenges and monitoring and evaluating the impact of TWB’s role in the refugee response in Bangladesh. This role will involve the collection of data, field coordination, data analysis and packaging findings into a variety of formats for programmatic uses.
Main duties and responsibilities
Research
Support the design and planning of field-based and remote research, including focus group discussions, key informant interviews and household surveys relating to language, communication, information and comprehension
Support with the preparation of literature reviews, creation of research tools, data collection and analysis, and report writing
Support with coordination of enumerators and other research staff for field and remote research activities

Qualifications
Excellent spoken and written communication skills in English, Bangla required
Knowledge of Rohingya and/or Chittagonian a plus
Experience or knowledge of non-profit organizations, especially development or humanitarian related, a plus
Familiarity with the translation, language or content industries a plus
Willingness to continually develop own professional capacity
Ability to work independently, efficiently and reliably, to a high standard and to deadline
Sensitivity to cross-cultural dynamics in the workplace and ability to work collaboratively with a diverse staff
Psychological resilience, flexibility, and a good sense of humor
Bangladesh nationality required
Background
Since 25 August 2017, more than 700,000 Rohingya refugees escaping violence in Myanmar have sought protection in Cox’s Bazar district, Bangladesh. Some 91 percent live in highly congested makeshift settlements and camps and face challenges accessing basic services, including food, water and education.This is the largest mass refugee movement in the region in decades. An unknown additional number remain stranded, internally displaced or on the move in different parts of the three northern townships of Rakhine.
TWB provides humanitarian partners working in the response with language expertise and services.
