Experience

You have:

  • Demonstrable expertise in international law, with high sensitivity to the policy context;
  • Experience researching and writing analytical pieces related to international law for diverse readerships;
  • Experience managing delivery of research projects, including communications/dissemination activities
  • Line management experience, with the ability to inspire and support; and
  • Successfully raised funds for research/projects, including drafting of proposals and engaging with potential donors.

Skills

You are:

  • Self-motivated, collegiate, collaborative and consistent;
  • An influencer with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships;
  • A strong communicator, able to present information and arguments persuasively;
  • Comfortable with budgets and contributing to financial planning and management; and

Role

In this role, you will work closely with the Director of our International Law Programme to develop and lead our research activities in conjunction with a small, dedicated team. Alongside your own research, you will play a key role in delivering projects across the programme, growing our funding base, and engaging our networks. You will:

Research

  • Create, design and deliver research projects that contribute to programme and Institute strategy;
  • Shape innovative research methodologies and outputs to generate greater impact.
  • Produce high quality policy-relevant research, for publication by the Institute – including research papers and expert comments;
  • Generate impact by supporting research events, conferences and roundtables, utilizing your expertise and networks;
  • Represent the programme as an authoritative speaker when called upon, including occasionally traveling abroad; and
  • Build relationships and collaboration with other research teams as well as external partners.

Project Management

  • Manage the successful delivery of projects and other research activities in line with objectives, budgets and timelines; and
  • Coordinate work of other project participants and partners (internal and external).

Communications

  • Promote our research through presentations and engagement at conferences/roundtables/other events, through publications and via the media;
  • Meet and brief visitors, including formal and informal presentations.

Fundraising

  • Work with the Programme Director to evaluate funding needs;
  • Develop funding leads, prepare applications, and secure core and research funding;
  • Strengthen relationships with existing donors.

Management

  • Take on line management of the Programme Manager;
  • Support the programme's recruitment activities.
