The International Water Management Institute (IWMI), a CGIAR Research Center is looking for a competent, self-motivated, and dynamic candidate to join as the Regional Researcher \u2013 Disaster Risk Management and Climate Resilience Specialist.

The Regional Researcher (RR) is responsible for leading IWMI West Africa Research in disaster risk management and climate resilience. The candidate will work with global datasets, including remote sensing information systems, to understand climate impacts, risks, and vulnerability at different scales in the West Centra Africa region. The specialist will develop appropriate decision support tools for disaster risk management and building climate resilience and calibrate them to ensure meaningful application in the West and Central Africa region at different spatial scales.

The candidate will contribute directly to two ongoing Initiatives (ClimBeR and TAFS-WCA)

ClimBeR (Building Systemic Resilience against Climate Variability and Extremes) aims at transforming the climate adaptation capacity of food, land, and water systems in six LMICs, ultimately increasing the resilience of smallholder production systems to withstand severe climate change. IWMI leads ClimBeR work package 4. The specialist will support the implementation of ClimBeR WP4 in Senegal. This involves implementing a bottom-up polycentric governance process that provides opportunities for self-organization and learning across systems while maintaining independent decision-making for adaptation planning and implementation at the local level.

TAFS- WCA (Transforming Agric-food System in West Central Africa), IWMI leads WP3 on inclusive landscape management as pathways for scaling land and water innovations for resilient agri-food systems. IWMI promotes the proper use of land and water resources as a prerequisite for building a healthy, productive, and One Health sensitive environment for resilient agri-food systems and livelihoods. The candidate will lead the activity on developing a near real-time water resources decision support system (WRDSS) to strengthen landscape resilience planning and investment in selected countries ( Nigeria, Ghana, Cote d\u2019Ivoire, Rwanda, Burundi, and DRC).
